BF Studios, about the maps...

First off, let me say that I have over 70 hours in this game and that I like it. There are many things right about this game. The two things that are NOT right are the netcode (which is not something any of us players can do about) and the maps (which we could do something about).

Blackwell Fields. What is it supposed to be? It feels like barely any effort has been put when making it. Vehicles, spawns, cover, lighting, etc. It's not a good map at all!

Then comes New Sobek City. Full of rooftop campers and snipers, barely any cover and apparently expert constructors who built stairways just to block them at the end. And is there anything breakable in the map?

Breakthrough Sector 1 in Mirak Valley, doors that should open but don't in Manhattan Bridge, Saints Quarter being useless, I could go on and on and on.

Anyway. Remember Portal and the spatial editor you talked about? Which everyone compared to Halo's Forge? If you can't make maps that the community (whichever ones), let the community make them! Well, it turned out to be a lot more restrictive than anticipated but that can be fixed! If it weren't for the spatial editor, I wouldn't be making this post.

Let's talk about the latest edition of Halo's Forge, which appeared in Halo Infinite. Before it launched, Halo Infinite had little content in it. Little amount of maps, little amount of classic Halo game modes, etc. AFTER it launched, everything changed. The game has around 70-80 maps right now and they started popping up after Forge was launched. 343i started to add the most well received maps into official matchmaking. Both remakes and brand new maps.

Back to Battlefield. The portal spatial editor is brimming with serious potential right now. But, sadly, it's not realized yet. You can't delete anything in the maps, you can't move anything in the maps, you can't edit the terrain, you can't add assets from other maps and you can't start from scratch. So, uh, make it less restrictive?

I know it's easier said than done but think about it. Everyone benefits from it. Community is satisfied and you could work on other things for a while (like the hitreg issues, please) while selecting whichever maps the community likes best to add them into matchmaking. Both remakes (which are bound to be made) and brand new maps! Of course, this doesn't mean that no one's expecting you to stop making official maps. But they could be launched less often.

So, what I want to say is, focus on the spatial editor and turn it into a full-fledged map creator! You clearly have the tools and the framework, so...

Pretty please?

  • The maps are really small and don't have that feel where you can say this is a battlefield, it's like just a small part of the map that should have been bigger. If they made the maps bigger, it would be better and put more interesting parts because for example, the Brooklyn map, I expected that you could go to the bridge and there would be a point, but there's nothing there, just a neighborhood, buildings that you can go to, there's no bridge, no subway or anything. I have 100+ hours in the game and I'm only now starting to realize how bad it is for pilots or vehicles. Overall, we have better movement than BF5, but BF5 had big maps, they're not here, so it feels bad.

it looks like Empire State and Manhattan Bridge were one map before but was split into two. Apparently they're set in the same locale. District? They're basically right next to each other is what I'm saying.
