How are we all finding subsonic rounds?

While I do overall appreciate them I don't think they're quite strong enough to warrant the use of them over another ammunition type and what a suppressor provides already.

Perhaps if using subs and a suppressor, weapons were a bit more quiet (-10%) than they currently are. Suppressor and using any other ammunition type the weapon was a bit louder (+30%) than they currently are, plus a minor reduction to muzzle velocity (-15%). Perhaps your time shown on the minimap when firing is heavily reduced too.

This gives a small drawback to just running a suppressor and gives subsonics a bit of a buff.

Since I've got you here it might be worth revisiting my old post in regards to ammunition and attachment combos concept, as it would be an interesting way to get players to explore different weapon builds.

  • I do like the further reduction of 3D spotting i bealive its only getting you spoted in 9m with suppressor incluted recoil reduction instead of the 20 someting meters wise i cant even see the diffrence just not all that sure if its worth to sacryfise half of velocity

Yep, the velocity decrease is massive on some weapons hence the suggestion to do a small reduction when just a suppressor is equipped.

This gives us a few more ' layers ' as it were to how we can go about setting up our weapons and working around muzzle velocity/running a suppressor.

For example, someone equips a suppressor and doesn't like the 15% muzzle velocity reduction, they can then equip an extended barrel to regain some velocity, but not all of what they lost. If they're fine with the reduction and want to run another barrel then they can.

Same with someone running a suppressor and subsonics, if they don't like how much of a reduction they too can equip an extended barrel to get some velocity back. If they're happy with the reduction and want to use a different barrel they can.

Perhaps if the recoil reduction of subsonics was a bit stronger too then?

  • I don't think the suppressors need a velocity decrease on their own. Not only is it completely unrealistic (they would actually increase the velocity) but they're already pretty balanced by both hip fire loss (you could argue this could maybe be ramped up) and point cost, especially the 30 points to negate the hip fire penalty.

You could totally make them louder, though, I don't think that's a bad change and it lets people use the 3D sound more, if they don't appear on map. New level of skill expression.

The idea behind them having slightly less velocity is kind of trying to make a " middle ground " between completely unsuppressed and fully suppressed as it were, even if it's rather unrealistic..

With sonic rounds suppressors don't really do anything to dampen the sound, but they do dampen the sound in-game when they shouldn't.

So as a halfway, lets say when you rock a suppressor, all rounds automatically have a different grain, as to be not be full power/max velocity but not a proper subsonic. With less expanding gases and a slightly lower velocity round, the suppressor would have a marginally better chance at doing " something. "

This is where my they have 15% less velocity whilst still being quieter than unsuppressed fits in.

Otherwise if they do absolutely nothing to quieten your weapon with standard rounds, i can't see people really using them without anything else other than subsonics. Which while realistic, people will complain being restricted in such a maner.

At the very least though Suppressor + non subsonics should be much louder when compared to suppressor + subsonics than they currently are.
