Major Issues Limiting Skill Gap & Player Count Retention in BF6

Hello developers,

I’ve been playing BF6 ant lvl 109 after years of Fortnite, a successful game with a very high player count and strong player retention. After spending time learning the mechanics, I’ve noticed several issues that significantly limit the skill gap, affect the player experience, and could eventually hurt the long-term health of the game.

Below is my feedback based on consistent gameplay, along with concerns I’ve personally experienced, seen from streamers, players, and the wider community. And before you say skill issue Fortnite is favored to m&k so you need to be good at controller and not rely on aim assist to keep up, especially in seasons where guns don’t have a scope and you have to bloom fight/tap fire and out play a m&k player.

1. TTK Is Too Fast, Little Room for Reaction in Close Quarters:

Right now the time-to-kill is so fast that gunfights feel predetermined. There’s very little ability to react, out play, or recover once you start taking damage. This removes a huge part of the skill gap. This encourages camping corners.

2. Headshot Multiplier Is Too Low

Body shots currently outperform headshots. There is almost no reward for being more accurate or aiming for the head besides a sniper. Increasing the headshot multiplier a bit would immediately raise the skill ceiling and reward precision.

3. Helicopters and Jets Are Extremely Hard to Control on Controller

Aircraft feel nearly unplayable on a controller: Controls are too stiff or too sensitive, Radar doesn’t function properly, There’s no sense of awareness when flying, This discourages players from using vehicles that should be part of the Battlefield identity.

4. Footstep Audio Is Almost Non-Existent

In Multiplayer, footsteps are extremely hard to hear. Audio clarity is essential for awareness, especially in a fast-TTK environment. The current audio makes it feel like players appear from nowhere.

5. Tanks Need Louder Audio + Better Visibility on RedSec BR Map

Tanks are extremely powerful, but they are too quiet and don’t appear on the map consistently. For balance: Louder engine sounds, Always visible on the map, This would make tank encounters less frustrating and more fair.

6. Sprint Speed Is Too Slow

Movement feels restricted. The limited sprint speed makes maneuvering, repositioning, and escaping nearly impossible in gunfights. Increasing sprint could drastically improve flow and combat flexibility.

7. Too Much Visual Clutter Hurts Gameplay

I understand the game is aiming for realism, but the amount of visual noise makes it hard to see enemies or track action in fast fights. At the end of the day, this is still a competitive video game—clarity should always come before realism or at least give a player the option to turn these settings off.

Every map is just constant action from every angle — you push one lane and immediately get shot in the back, hit by a tank, or caught in crossfire from three different sightlines. There’s no real flow, no safe spacing, no moments where you can reset, rotate, or set up a flank. It’s like the maps were designed to keep you in nonstop fights instead of letting players use positioning or game sense.

8. Maps.

Even when I try to slow down and play tactically, the maps force me into chaos:Too many open sightlines, Tanks always in the mix, Spawn-to-fight distance is tiny, No cover to reposition or retreat.

there is no possibility where you can actually control your engagements, create spacing, and make plays. In BF6, it feels like the maps punish you for trying to do anything other than sprint into the meat grinder.

Addressing these issues would: Create a real skill gap, Reduce frustration for new and high-level players, Improve long-term retention, Help the game reach its full potential

Myself and many other players/streamers love the foundation BF6 has. These changes could push it from “good” to a truly great Battlefield experience especially those who love to play competitively.

Thanks for reading and for continuing to work on the game.

It takes 4-6 rounds in optimal range for all automatic weapons (no headshots); I think that is a good place personally. I do think the netcode/latency gives weird TTK/TTD, but the balance of the weapons is good, in my opinion. I do think they should do what they can to tighten up the experience though.

Hardcore is only in Portal right now, and has its own series of issues people are asking to have fixed; so I don't play HC right now because:

    1. Finding a populated server in Portal can be impossible sometimes with all the empty servers filling the list.
    2. Hardcore mutator in portal makes some weird things happen, like no sights on vehicle weapons (which is obviously a problem because we can't really ADS vehicle weapons and mounted weapons.

I'm hoping we get official hardcore servers/play lists, but I'm not holding my breath. DICE doesn't seem to be caring about BF players too much. We ask for official servers and server browser, they ignore us. We ask for official hardcore, they ignore us. We ask for larger maps, they mostly ignore us. Lol I like the game for what it is, but think it could be so much better if they listened to the veteran BF players a bit more.

I can agree with the movement but since you value realistic game play just make sprint a bit faster with a stamina bar so you could balance that out while making it realistic. BR redsec does it well with plates you can react and re set a fight without having to paint faster. I agree the sliding while accurately shooting is very call of duty like and shouldn’t be in the game. But the fast TTK encourages camping and takes skill out of the equation its first own to spot the other wins. Besides like you said you have hardcore mode for people who want the fast TTK.

That’s my point it shouldn’t be hard to fly an aircraft when there has been past bf games made it easier to fly. It’s fine if you don’t want to fly but it should affect others who want to fly.

Buff headshot where it takes 2 bullets instead of 3 same as a body shot kill, make it more realistic. Cap it at 2 to make snipers preferred. Or unless you use hollow point or synthetic bullets to balance snipers otherwise hollow and synthetic bullets are useless in the game.

BR redsec fixed the footstep audio just do the same in multiplayer. Yea it should be louder it’s a video game at the end of the day the only time you shouldn’t hear footsteps if someone is crouch walking.

im not trying to make BF into fornite i want to improve it for someone who is new like me to be easier to get into. Also I can get out killed by a noob in a corner so no matter how much better I am because of the TTK there’s no skill gap. Some of us younger folk like to play competitively and improve so give that audience that option. But keep the causal modes and hardcore mode for the older audience who prefer to play that styles

this will help the longevity of bf for a wider audience not just for one. I would want to see Dice suffer from success as this game has a lot of potential.

    1. As long as we have massive hitreg problems they cant adjust ttd/ttk.
    2. Yes definitly!
    3. I dont fly with a controller so i cant give an opinion about it
    4. As you pointed out they are non existenst on enemy, but i clearly hear my teammates walking over the whole map.
    5. Ninja tanks in every map sneaking up on me
    6. faster sprint is good when you add a duration how long you can sprint. right now every one can sprint as long as he dont get shot down.
    7. I also cant see enemys. everything blends together, good old counter strike days. you always knew who is an enemy.
    8. map design is really really bad imo. spawnpoints spawn you almost always in front of an enemy instead of far away in safety. but i think this i a dev choice.

I think TTK needs to be tweaked just a bit, IMHO.  It just feels lightning quick most of the time for me.  But I'm also aware it could be way more of a netcode thing.

Stupid question, how does one access the hardcore mode?? I've been trying to find it

This is battlefield, not fortnite. Most of the things you are complaining about are what battlefield players want.

We want rich battlefields that look realistic.

We don't want superfast sprinting, and many old timer BF players really don't like the unrealistic sliding already in the game; we do want grounded movement similar to how a soldier wearing 80 lbs of gear would move.

Helicopters and jets are fine for many, I personally don't fly, because the controls are hard and I don't feel like mastering them, but there are many who fly well with them. This seems like a skill issue to me. I'd say helicopters could use a mobility buff though, they are not agile enough, which makes them easy pickings for good rocket launcher users.

I hear footsteps fine, as long as there is not a loud din of battle going on; why do you think footsteps should override the sound of explosions and loud gunfire?

I agree tank/ground vehicle audio could probably use a tweak in some cases; there are times it is fairly quiet around me and a tank somehow quietly sneaks onto the point. Other times, I can hear tanks perfectly fine, even when battle is loud. So this may be more of an audio bug.

I agree headshot multiplier is too low for most guns...SVK doesn't need a headshot multiplier increase though; it already is a near OHK with hollow points (99 damage), this would put it into semi-auto sniper category instead of DMR if it were any stronger.

TTK is fine in the game; we don't want bullet sponges in battlefield. Matter of fact, many of us prefer hardcore mode, where it is even faster (60% health).

You already have Fortnite, other players have CoD. Stop trying to turn battlefield into a game it isn't.
