Mortars: DO. NOT. WORK.

Mortars have been so badly nerfed since BF1 that they have no use at all.

You grind your way to level 49 with derermination and excitement to get that final gadget to find out it doesn't work.

Why doesn't it work?

1. Highly inaccurate.

It should be the old system. First shot is accurate, and the more you spam, the worse it gets. If you want accuracy, you wait 1-2 seconds per shot (reducing spam).

2. Takes ages for shots to arrive.

It shouldnt be anymore than 3 seconds. And if it is, its because of long range. Max 5 seconds. The way it is now, makes me yawn.

3. Spotted on minimap.

This is unfair with the state the mortar is in. If the mortar is effective, then its ok. But its not.

4. Zapped by a drone.

This is unfair with the state the mortar is in. If the mortar is effective, then maybe its ok depending on how often it happens and how often you can mortar.

5. Cant use them in "neutral" zones in Breakthrough.

How am i supposed to attack objectives if the killzone is so small as the maps are? And why am I not allowed to use a mortar at time when a mortar is espcially needed to do the job in Breakthrough for attacking?

I was so excited to use it in on Breakthrough for attacking. But it feels so restriced. Its annoying.

6. Zero visual calrity where the shots land.

This is unfair with the state the mortar is in. If the mortar is effective, then its ok. But its not.

7. Very week and / or has little splash damage range.

How is a mortar worse than a grenade, grenade launcher, therombaric launcher, etc? Surely theyre way smaller than mortar round.

Essentially, the mortar is at odds with evrything. They're highly visible, easily taken out, have zero visual shot clarity, they're slow, restricted in placements, and have no damage effectiveness. This is completely unbalanced and It's excessively nerfed. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

You need to make the mortars more effective, but prevent spam.

How do you do this?

  1. Allow the mortar to have no more than 4-5 HE shots.
  2. Increase damage and / or damage range.
  3. Allow the mortar to have no more than 1-3 smokes.
  4. Make ammo resupply VERY slow. This makes players not bother and make them get abck in the fight. Theyll use it on the next spawn, if anything.

If everything was done my way, it would allow you to have a few good effctive shots rather than plenty of shots with zero effective shots..

If the mortars are a matter of suppression, your'e certainly doing none of that. Its rare that you effect anyone. And what even is suppression in this game? It means nothing. But thats another topic. 🙄

Hopefully this can get fixed.

Extra:

I heard smokes on mortars are terible, too. Somebody suggested theyre like farts. Lol

  • As a support person i use mortars when required and on certain maps.

The smoke is only good to spam a campers spot so they cant see.

You must continually launch volleys into the same area to be effective but just move slightly to increase splash damage.

You now get a green ring if you are close to an enemy as well on the map when the mortar hits.

Mortar needs either 1-increase in splash damage at the same rate of fire OR 2-Increase rate of fire but leave damage radius as is.

Mortars are only good on certain maps ie: Liberation Peak when they are camped on the hill at C or campers in outta bounds areas or campers in general.

Yeah, recon living the good life. You cant effectuvely counter them because suppression doesnt exist, and mortars are rain droplers and farts.

Man, i was showering herds with them. It did nothing. Theyre rain drops. The damage range needs to be increased, as well as time to impact.

Yeah the mortar's smoke grenades are worthless, I mean how can you use them tactically when their cloud is so small, disperses so quickly, and takes 10 seconds to arrive?

Also as mentioned the HE rounds are pathetic, it is so difficult to get a kill and since you instantly become visible no matter where you have stationed, you are more likely to be hunted down and killed by a Recon player or their drone before accomplishing anything.

They definitely overconpensated since BF1. The only way I see them being effective is if you get a squad of mortars, which isnt very likely, and just spam it in one spot.
