Mortars

Yet to see anyone post anything about this gadget lately or talk about it but they are now virtually useless. Did I miss the update that says they are now going to land randomly around where your aiming?

We already have to deal with a delay and now they have RNG?

Also smoke rounds start at 0 rounds when you switch to them?

  • They always were virtually useless. They always did have "bloom" that made them land randomly around where aimed. They always did zero splash damage.  You can hit a destructible house over and over, and it doesn't even damage the roof.

I think no one talks about them because no one uses them because they are useless. You just use them a bit to do a challenge, then never again.

  • tons of threads about it.  Think i been killed by one. once.  out of 100s of hours played.  So you are saying they were useless,  and now they are even more useless...lol   crazy...   probably the .001% were complaining it doesn't take skill,  same guys are probably are why tank rockets or launched grenades do no splash dmg to infantry.   Surprised they haven't nerfed RPG yet.    But how un immersive would it be to launch and rpg into someones face and it not kill them?  lmao.....

Game companies have made this mistake for years.  And I thought it was naivety or ignorance,  but now I realize its political ideology.   They cater to the top players who want to stick out more and widen the skill gap for their ego,   so they push development to make the game more about aim, straight up aim and no brains,  rather than tactics and strategy.   Which caters to aimbots either by design or consequence.    And then they end up being the majority of the playerbase,   Because what they should be doing is catering to the avg player.

But I've come to the realization that most of these devs and mods,  actually don't believe in fair play and comeptitive matchesup.  They feel it is toxic and evil to segregate players by skill level and trash talk.  They won't even give us dedicated servers to run as we please anymore,  instead they force us to play with trolls and cheats,  and guys way too good for us who are unsporting,  because they are anti sports by political ideology.

  • Just thought i would say that lately it seems the Mortar has become viable, i have been in at least half dozen different games and the opposition has been using a Mortar and it has really caused us problems, it might need a direct hit to kill you ( no sure ) but anywhere near you seems to do damage and totally disrupts your game , So they are better than they use to be in my eyes

  • sadly mortars are really only effective if played with someone else and targeting the same area, ive managed plenty of kills BUT more kill assists than anything else.

  • Every time that I have used the mortar in this game, I come to the conclusion that "Oh I have just wasted these minutes of my life".

The one thing I want a mortar to be able to do is to be able to do a precise strike right on top of some sniper who is being a rat on some rooftop.

The way they setup the mortars now, it takes several people to use it together on the same location in order to unsettle the enemies. But in the modes that this is useful, the  map boundary restrictions are so severe, that it is often too dangerous to go close enough to deploy the mortars

  • I have to say I totally agree! I will sometimes try to support taking objectives and you clearly know those crosshairs was put on a group of people or a vehicle, you've sent several mortars down range and nothing happens!!!!!!! And your teammates are telling you, you didn't hit them. They Mark the targets you hit their targets and still the mortars are inaccurate!

  • Not to mention in breakthrough and rush, you cannot place the mortar anywhere but inside contestable space. So we get bombarded in Blackwell fields when attacking and cannot counter-battery at all. Not to mention the .05 damage the shells do.

  • I agree—mortar really needs to be improved so it actually does something.

I was in a game of Breakthrough where the opposing team had well-placed snipers with overlapping coverage. Every time we tried to counter-snipe, we’d get picked off by another sniper no matter what angle we tried. You’d line up one sniper, but get killed by a different one watching the area.

I spent the rest of the match trying to dislodge them—about 10 minutes of continuous bombardment—just so our team could move up. In all that time, I only got 1–2 kills with the mortar, and none of them were the camping snipers I was actually targeting.

Mortar should be a tool to break entrenched positions, but right now it feels ineffective.

  • The only buff I would suggest for mortars is to lower the starting "bloom" when dropping them on a location.  So instead of needing 5-6 shots to finally start hitting center, maybe 2-3.

Mortars work great when they are used to flush enemies from cover.  The problem is that it often takes so long to get the projectile to the actual cover that the game has progressed and you're probably on the next stage before one even hits the ground.

I would also suggest a change to the resupply cooldown.  First, don't start the CD until the mortar is actually gone.  Then after that it should take longer than it currently is, because even if you get counter or droned you already have your ammo on you and you just plop down another tube after shooting the drone.  It completely negates the effort you put in to counter mortar when it works like it currently does.

Oh, and fix the glitch or bug or whatever that lets you increase your fire rate by having a ammo pack on you.  This along with the above suggestions would be fine at the no ammo box speed, otherwise just make it always the faster reload at least.
