disposalist People who want the closed weapon system are the original Battlefield community, they have had the chance to test an open weapon system by playing Battlefield 2042, and we all know how that went.
I fear you're right and that EA/DICE won't change anything. The traditional Battlefield community isn't their target audience anymore. They want to attract new players (With the CoD players being the biggest fish in the pond), and these people are not used to the restrictions that the traditional class system brings with it. And yes they will choose for revenue over staying true to their game's identity. The new players they want to attract are the ones who spend money on cosmetics.
Which also means that they set themselves up for failure. CoD players are used to getting a new game every year, so they really don't have the patience or loyalty to stick around as soon as something else is released. But unfortunately that's the reality we live in, there's no real way to win, a game is a revenue model and not really intended to please a certain group of people. In that sense it's highly unlikely that we will ever get a true Battlefield back...those days are over.

I hope not, but I fear you may be right.
Companies like Larian buck that trend, thankfully, showing the greedy corp studios that you can respect your players and devs and still make successful profitable hits.
But the greedy corps will still do it the lazy greedy way they keep getting fat bonuses for and, unfortunately, there are plenty of drooling **bleep** consumers these days that will reward them with their feckless praise and their money.

The fact that people are preordering en masse, even after the disasters of BFV and BF2042, just tells EA that they can do whatever they want. People are going to buy it anyway.
