Remove Rangefinder/Zeroing! There is no bullet drop in BF6 anymore.

Pretty simple, zeroing has no place in battlefield its not a simulator this isnt ArmA, people dont sit still in Battlefield for extended periods of time. When Zeroing first got added to BF4 people didnt use it because they didnt need it, acquiring a range was janky at best and setting your range was tedious. People learned the drops of weapons and ranges and got good at it, more affactive than someone sitting there zeroing for a target A,D,A,D spamming and likely to move by the time you've set the distance.

Now here we are in BF6 and they solved a problem but as a result broke sniping entirely. They added the RangeFinder and the ability to simply push a button and now your scope is zero'd to wherever youre looking, congrats you just took all the skill out of sniping and made it boring HOO RAY!
Except it gets worse people are now mapping said button to the same button as they have to shoot meaning the second you pull the trigger it instantly zero's as it fires meaning every time you pull the trigger it has 0 bullet drop. You just made sniping more boring and 1 dimensional than Call of Duty.

Go back to BF3 and watch people on firestorm dropping people at 600-1000m no zeroing or abusing terrible mechanics and they was awarded for their efforts since 1000m kill would be over 1000xp the equivalent to 10 kills. Snipers in BF6 have more purpose than ever and means of contributing to the team giving them near hitscan weapons at close-medium range and 0 bullet drop at any range is by far the dumbest thing ive seen in this game so far.

  • I don't understand why everyone is complaining about the rangefinder.  Yes it makes it way easier to hit shots.  Yes it takes away the older mechanics of zeroing for bullet drop.  Do you want to actually play as a sniper at all in BF again?  If they don't do something to balance the faster ttk and the fact that you no longer flinch when hit during ads then nobody will play as a sniper anymore.  Several times I have been lying in wait to pop a headshot off and have gotten drilled by an AR or an LMG from a ridiculous distance that shouldn't even be possible.  Many a time I have drilled someone with a headshot when being lit up from the same distance.  Snipers and DMRs are the only two guns that really have a drastic bullet drop in BF when not zeroed for distance.  Every other gun in game can reach ridiculous distances in semi auto or mounted before bullet drop is even a factor.  Personally I feel it balances out in the end and honestly DMRs are the bigger threat than the range finder.  I can see glint from a sniper trying to shoot me, I can't see glint from a DMR shooting at me from ridiculous distances

  • Agreed—and, hand up, I'm someone exploiting the zeroing keybind&shoot thing. This needs to be changed somehow because as is.. it's just not fun not having to account for bullet drop. Stinks that this is just the way to be competitive.

I would rather not use the range finder—I loved calculating bullet drop myself in previous BFs, it's very satisfying. In BF6 though I feel like I have no choice but to use the range finder so I can stand a chance against opposing snipers.

  • The problem is not the mechanic but its implementation an here is how it should been done

    Range finder needs better implementation.

First it shouldn't change or set the zeroing distance but instead it should passively give you distance to what you are aiming. This will help with key binding issues

2nd recon should manually set zeroing distance, increase or decrease based on what RF displays

Maps are small and bullet drop is nonexistent so range finder is rather pointless at least to me but this way it would allow beginners to get a more immersive experience

Sweet spot has the same problem as it should be deliberate not just lucky.

1st to trigger it you have to hold your breath and gain focus by briefly staying still for a moment, this allows snipers to be open for counter in exchange for a single hit Ko

2nd recon needs to remain focus so if you get shot, move, or prematurely shot you'll have to regain focus before activating Sweet spot again "repeat 1st step"

3th you can shoot without holding your breath but sweet spot won't activate, therefore no lucky shots at any range unless you get a head shot.

Personally I would prefer not having a rainbow when you activate sweet spot but either way i have no real issue with that

  • Being able to map ranging to the fire button and have it work like that is silly. The simple fix in my opinion is have the zeroing change be delayed by a couple seconds, so your bullet goes where it was zeroed when the shot was taken. Having the Range Finder just display the distance somewhere and the player adjust manually would also be cool.

Range estimating by eye in this game I don't find too bad, but the lack of glowing orb bullet makes it a little harder than in BF3&4. The silly smoke trail hides the point of impact pretty good if you try to watch a test shot. Even so, I tried the range finder for a game or two and didn't find it worth the points. I didn't do the key-bind thing because I think it's cheesy, and I figured it could hurt my pop shots at moving helicopters if it ranged to something in the background.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE CHANGED is how I can be bouncing LMG round off a sniper, consistently but to little effect, like 200 - 300m away and somehow he is able to just 1-shot dome me under that condition. Having bullets entering your body I think should effect your aim somewhat, at least for a few seconds or something. I've been on both sides of this situation and I'm not a fan.

I like that suppression doesn't make sniping impossible anymore, but actually getting shot should probably disrupt things a bit.

  • I dont even use a range finder. Most of my shots are always between 1 to 200 meters. The way the maps are, you hardly ever get a chance to see people further than 300. I mean, unless you're flying a helicopter to an unreachable vantage point, the average recon player wont really see a shot further than 300 meters. At least thats my experience, anyway. I think the range finder is just a waste of gear space. Additionally, I usually use the objective range as a reference to range or ping the target. I just dont have a use for the range finder at all
