Tank armor damage numbers bug or feature?

Seen some vids on ytube about where best to hit vehicles for maximum damage, but some just seem so complicated that it gives many false positives during combat.

9/10 people just shoot at whatever part of a tank they can hit, but for some reason shooting an arbitrary point on a tank twice makes it instant explode, or even tank tracks for maximum damage. Even things like the tips of a barrel doing maximum damage that really needs fixing.

In a very arcady shooter like Battlefield this should just be made very simple

  • Front least damage
  • Side mid damage
  • Rear, top and belly max damage

No world of tanks level of detail plz

I died so many times to much less RPGs than it should take

Don’t think it’s good for the game that you can basically do RNG damage if you just get a lucky hit

I am sure some really aim for these specific parts of those vids but honestly just different value numbers for different sides of the tank is sufficient

Hated the vehicle and weapon disables from precious titles cuz 9/10 it wasn’t a skilful shot but just a lucky hit.

Those are obvious ones, we are talking about the more obscure ones. Like shooting a specific armor plate on a specific tank twice in a row (which will get awkward with random skins) and the many bugged locations like the very tip of the gun barrel on the AA tank.

On the Abrams it is the rear of the tank just like the Bradley. For the pax it's the side of the tank and the rear of their Bradley. Side shots on the Abrams also do more damage than a front shot but not nearly as much as a rear shot.

Can you list those weak spots you are talking about?

I always try to get around a tank to hit the weak spots. You can say luck but alot of us just know where to hit the tanks.

I think good tank drivers are perfectly capable of staying alive for extended periods of time. They may eventually make a mistake and get punished because of it, but that's completely fine. As long as you keep moving and making yourself hard to hit, you're not going to be hit in a weak spot every single time.

If there are specific spots that take more damage than they should, then yes that should be fixed. But there are also deliberate weak spots like the broken panel on the side, that should definitely stay.

I just see too many bad tank drivers that just drive forward into a group of enemies only to instantly die. I also see too many tank drivers that get shot at and they just don't even move, they just keep tanking the damage until they eventually die. At some point, it's just a matter of getting better at the game.

Not everything but after watching those vids it explains a lot

Unless you stay at main spawn and try snipe people getting surrounded in BF6 is just part of the deal, that’s why I think some of these weaknesses which are obvious bugs need fixing.

I don't think that you could ever come to a conclusion about what is balanced or not, if you keep blaming everything on luck. No matter how many rockets come flying your way, it's not like you have no control over where you get hit. A good tank driver positions the tank in a location where they don't easily get surrounded by hostile infantry. This means that most RPGs will be shot at the front, where the tank has no real weak spots and has the strongest armor.

  • If it were difficult to land a shot on a tank I could agree, but the shear amount of RPGs flying it most definitely is luck over skill

I can understand hitting the exact spot twice sure because that takes the luck element out of it. But from these vids there are also many random spots, too many

  • The exact damage values may need work, but I couldn't disagree more when it comes to weak points. It's not arbitrary. It's a conscious design decision that allows players that have the necessary knowledge and skill to gain an advantage. Requiring skill is what gives the game depth and gives you a reason to keep practicing to become better.

So what if somebody was lucky? They might every now and then accidentally shoot it, but those who are really skilled may be able to do it consistently. It's not RNG, it's perfectly deterministic. Do you also think we need to remove headshots just because somebody could get lucky and hit one?

Besides, when you're a tank driver, you can't possibly know whether it was luck or whether the player was specifically aiming for those points. So you might have been blaming players for getting lucky, while they simply outplayed you.
