game spikes and freezes

i dont know why but i recently tried playing again and the game just keeps spiking and makes it unplayable.

i had to get a new cpu just to play this and now it wont even run what a waste of 300 on my end.

ill post all of my specs here:

GPU: RTX 4060ti
CPU: Ryzen 9 5950x
32 GIG Ram
1 gig internet
Windows 11
Motherboard: B450M DS3H, Bios 60(just in case)

Ive tried reinstalling, Verifying files, and i did a system reset.

I will attach a video of the performance screen to show what happens when im just in the setting not even loaded into the map.

  • gearsofwar6145 maybe the voltage regulator modules (VRM, VR MOS, or MOS.) on the motherboard are overheating and throttling the CPU to a lower frequency speed.

Download HWiNFO and check the VRM temperature. Anything over 100°C will most likely cause CPU thermal throttling.

Also check CPU frequency speed to see if the CPU is being throttled down to a lower speed.

Create a "user.cfg" by creating a textfile with Texteditor that you just name "user.cfg" make sure it is an user.cfg and then put that inside  it what is between the two lines. And then copy it into the main folder of BF6. This makes sure the game only uses half of your CPU, so it doesn't use cores on your second CCD, that should fix all of your problems.

I have to do the same with 9950x3d, or else it uses all 16 cores and that causes issues.

Edit: And if you still can't get a clean frametime turn off V-Sync and only use G-Sync and limit your FPS with Riva Tuner Statistics Server, but only for BF6 and turn off the OSD of RTSS you don't need any of that. I have it limited to 138 FPS with RTSS and turned on Nvidia Reflex + Boost ingame and my frametime is super clean.

Yeah my VRM MOS was overheating, it was running at 116C before it started to freeze and stutter

gearsofwar6145 check the VRM heatsink screws and make sure they're tight. If the screws are tight and the VRM is still overheating then a motherboard upgrade is needed.

Hardware Unboxed has great motherboard review videos on B550 boards. They test VRM thermal performance for all the boards.

You can also try disabling one of the CCD dies on the Ryzen 9 5950x and see if that helps with VRM overheating on B450M DS3H. Google search how to disable one of the CCD in motherboard BIOS settings.

For future reference, CPUs with more than one CCD aren't the best for gaming. Usually CPUs with one CCD offer better gaming performance.

You shouldn't play games with all 16 cores active, I told you how to deactivate the second CCD. Just do it and it will run how it should. It's a night and day difference.

There is no need to do anything in the BIOS.
