Complex "I can not download BFV" problem
Writing here, because EA Help Support is going nowhere.
To understand my problem, I think the full context/story is warranted. Buckle up..
1. In July 2018 I made a preorder for BFV: Deluxe edition on the Origin Client
2. 2 attempts to fill the order with funds from my bank account failed.
3. I forgot about it for 4 years, until 4 days ago.
Here comes a 4 Year break
4. "Hmm, I have an FPS Itch, "My Collection" in the EA App says that I own Battlefield V: Deluxe edition."
5. I download the game without problems, but when I launch it, I get met with a popup saying "DisplayName was not found in the registry, please provide your account credentials".
6. This is where I did a bit of digging, and discovered the EA Order history, and saw the 2 failed attempts for withdrawing funds in 2018.
7. The Pre-order was still in state "Pending", so I manually cancelled it, hoping that the game would disappear from "My Collection".
8. Battlefield: Deluxe Edition is still in "My Collection", and now, since cancelling the initial order for it, I can not even download the game. After some time, I get a very generic error: "An error occured, please wait some time before trying again"
9. I see that "EA Play" subscription would let me play BFV, so I subscribe to EA Play
10. Still the same generic download Error.
11. I've tried each day since I got the error, rebooting the computer, cleaning the EA App Cache.
During all my contacts with EA Support, I've gotten the already tried advice: "Please reboot the computer and try again.." And noone really listens to my story of how I got here.
This is my own personal Hypothesis of what has happened:
1. The game was erroneously added to my library as "Owned", since no valid transaction was made from the get go. This might have happened in the transition from Origin to EA App, or.. at any time really.
2. The first time I downloaded the game, EA's download servers recognised that there was an order from my side for BF5: Deluxe edition, but the result of the transaction was not validated, which is why I was allowed to download it.
3. Upon starting the game, the Login servers actually tried to validate the result of the order, hence the "DisplayName not found in registry" error.
4. Upon cancelling the order, and trying to download the game again, it fails, since the order is now completed, with the result canceled.
5. It's entirely possible that "EA Play" does not give me authentication rights do download "Deluxe Edition".
@CharleNerg, cheers for the tag.
I've passed it on to one of our Specialists and they would like to ask you to perform a few steps;
Would you maybe be able to uninstall the EA app and all its components completely? The best way to do this would be via a 3rd part program such as Revo Uninstaller, which removes any leftover files that could be causing issues.
After you have done this, please install the EA app again > check for Battlefield V in your My Collection and try to download again.
If this doesn't work, could you try to install Origin and see if that lets you download/install the game?
