Status is set to 'Online' instead of 'In-game' when launching a game on EA App

Hello everyone,

Since last night, I have been going through an issue with EA App not being able to recognize status while running any game. Which means, my status is set to 'Online', instead of switching to 'In-game'.

I have tried every possible workaround to get it working, such as:

  • clearing app cache
  • logging out and back in
  • repaired my games
  • refreshed the app

None of the above methods I tried works.

This issue took place with other statuses as well, other than 'Online'. For example, manually switching status to 'Away' while launching any game.

I am not sure if it's network connection related. However, I have a stable network connection. It took place last night, last time I encountered the 'in-game' status was a few days ago.

I'm on a Windows 11 64-bit laptop, specs are: 16GB RAM/512GB SSD drive/AMD Ryzen 7 7435HS CPU

Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Hey,

    Thanks for the detailed report. Based on what you’ve described, this doesn’t look like something on your end.

    The “In-game” status is handled by the EA app’s presence system, and we’ve seen cases where the app launches games correctly but doesn’t update that status. Since it’s happening across multiple statuses (Online/Away) and started suddenly, it points more toward a client or backend sync issue rather than your setup or connection.

    A couple of things you can still try, just in case:

    • Launch the game directly from the EA app (not a shortcut/Steam)
    • Make sure the EA app is fully up to date (restart + check for updates)
    • Disable any overlays temporarily (EA/Discord/etc) to rule out hook conflicts


    If it keeps happening, it’s likely something that needs to be fixed on the app side rather than locally.

    Appreciate you flagging it, helps surface patterns like this.
