PS5 fully crashes after 10 Minutes playing Split Fiction

Good Morning !

I've been trying to enjoy the new game with my friend for the last few days, but there is no way to play it more than 10 minutes in a row without the PS5 fully crashing forcing me to do a manual reboot and rebuild the database before i can relaunch the game for 10 more minutes of playtime.

We have both bought the full version of the game, and both of us are playing on PS5.

I have already tried deleting the game and DL'ed it again. and went through all the possible repairs in the PS5 safe mode (cache delete, rebuild, etc)

It's the only game where this happens, whether online or single player (I've tried various others for long periods of time to discard hardware issue or overheating from the console), and the first time I get a crash where the console just turns off without any error message.

Please help, we can't wait to get back in the adventure !

Thanks a lot !

    Hi everyone,

For those experiencing random PS5 shutdowns or crashes while playing Split Fiction, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

    • Remove any additional USB devices from your console and see if the issue persists. If you’re not using any extra devices, please mention that as well.
    • Ensure both your PS5 and the game are fully updated. You can check for updates through the system settings—refer to your console manual for the exact steps.
    • Check your console’s ventilation. Overheating can cause unexpected shutdowns, so make sure your PS5 is in a well-ventilated area and not obstructed by dust or objects.
    • Test in Safe Mode. Try rebuilding the database in Safe Mode to see if it helps resolve any potential system issues.

    Let us know your results.

    Thanks.

Check your console’s ventilation. Overheating can cause unexpected shutdowns, so make sure your PS5 is in a well-ventilated area and not obstructed by dust or objects.

Although my PS5 has always been on a well ventilated spot, I opened the console for the first time since I bought it (nov 2020) and it turns out the fan was half covert in a thick dust layer. I cleaned up the console with a vacuum cleaner and compressed air and I haven't had any black screens in the game since. I never saw this before in another game, so I guess Split Fiction is pushing the console to its limits and (in my case) caused the PS5 to shut down because of overheating.

Moestuin, I'm happy to hear that cleaning the console solved the issue for you. :)

  • Marked as solved when it isn't... PS5 version is still shutting down the console. Console is clean (just opened it and checked). It happened to me for the first time today after 7h of gameplay without any problem (on 3 days). Suddenly, it shut down my console. I restarted it, and it crashed again after 40 minutes. I was on local coop.

No other game is having any problem. We played another game after the second crash for 2 hours without any problem.

  • I bought the physical copy of this game and the digital download-paid twice and it always shuts down after 10 minutes of gameplay. Neither one works. I’ve tried the troubleshooting tips above and this game still shuts down my console. We’re playing local. Are there any updates? Is this a game glitch? This doesn’t happen playing any other games.
