Re: EA Play Subscription not working in Steam

Hey @R3XBON3S,

So EA Play for Steam and the EA app are considered to be separate subscriptions. If you buy a subscription on one, then it doesn't transfer to the other. So with your EA app subscription, you're right that Steam won't recognize it. I'm pretty sure that you'll have to download the games via the EA app now if you want to keep your EA app subscription. We have an article here with a bit more information, but if you have more questions please let me know:

I'm sorry but that is just ridiculous!

I was able to lauch my games using the EA Play app or Steam ... why would they be considered two different subscriptions? That's certainly not made clear enough to the subscriber.

    That being said —

Downloading the games again through the EA Play app isn't even an option unless I first uninstall the games through the Steam app.

I am guessing that doing so will also delete all my game progress for each game too ... is that the case?

I subscribed for a year through EA Play but I would rather have the same exact subscription through the Steam app ... Can my subscription be switched over or can I get a refund so that I can resubscribe through Steam instead?

    @R3XBON3S,

Your game progress will stay, that's not an issue. Steam and the EA app share game progress in pretty much all EA games, if I'm not mistaken. Even if you uninstall your games, the game progress should stick about.

Unfortunately there's nothing else I can really recommend other than install the games through the app. As per the article I shared:

    • EA Play memberships don’t cross platforms, and Steam is a separate platform from the EA app. If you buy your membership on the EA app, you won’t be able to use your membership benefits or access games from The Play List on Steam, and vice versa.

@EA_QueenBee OK, but how would you explain this:

I subscribed to EA Play via Steam as well and play and launch Battlefield 2042 via Steam with the Origin client open in the background. All works fine - I get my monthly rewards, get a 10% discount in the BF2042 in-game store...

Then I saw that the EA App went out of beta. Deinstalled Origin. Installed EA App. Now it doesn't recognize my subscription at all - I don't get my monthly rewards for BF2042. the in-game discount is not applied, so basically it doesn't work with EA App.

I tried to re-install the app, the game, checked integrity of game files, tried o launch the game both via Steam AND EA App etc... Nothing worked.

I complained previously about this months ago, nobody could help me:

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports-Technical-Issues/Didn-t-get-this-months-EA-Play-bonus/m-p/12275182#M17429

Since than I removed EA App and went back to Origin but few days ago I re-installed EA app to see if they got it fixed, but guess what, it's still an issue. I tried to make a bug report here but even the ticket creator is bugged - when you click on SUBMIT nothing happens. (Chrome, all up-to-date).

Why is this app out of beta? Or is it game specific, or maybe even something wrong on my end?

    Hey @AEIDOLONE,

I'm a little confused. It seems like you have the exact same question as the original poster. EA Play subscriptions for Steam and the EA app/Origin are seen as two completely separate subscriptions.

Unless you mean that you're still playing on Steam, and that now you're not getting your rewards anymore after switching to the EA app even though you still have your active subscription? If I've misread something, I'm very sorry.

    Exactly that I meant.

    Hey @AEIDOLONE,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! So it looks like this is actually a few separate issues going on at once, all of which the studio is thankfully already looking in to.

As for the in-game discount, that should display properly once you get to the Steam checkout. This seems to be Battlefield specific, and should display fine in other games.

Hopefully the missing monthly rewards issue gets fixed soon as well. There's no troubleshooting I can recommend for that one, that's a solution we'll need to wait for from the studio.

This feels like a scam, given that if you make the purchase with Steam it forces you to instsall EA app too. Totally ridiculous.

  • Yes that woul be wonderful, to get a refund or a switch.

    Hey @seboferi,

We're not able to help with purchases or subscriptions bought through Steam, for that you need to contact Steam support:

    https://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds

It's pretty clear on the Steam store that an EA Play subscription bought there only counts for Steam, but you can always reach out to them regardless.

@EA_QueenBee If not already done please report this issue I explained in the previous post to the appropriate departments. It turns out the issue is in the EA App and/or it's game specific for the game: Battlefield 2042.

It's a huge issue deactivating the subscription when you switch from Origin to EA App without any user warning!

Is that a joke?  It does not say it anywhere.  Things like this are the reason EA is the most hated company in gaming. Its easier to just pirate your games than mess with all this insane crap.  Don't blame Valve for EA being incompetent.  This is the company that refuses to release the NHL game on PC because they lied about the code in the game for the last 15 years and dont want to be exposed.

    Hey @xshpadoinklex,

So this thread is over a year old since the last post, so I'm going to lock it to prevent necroposting. But just so you know, the following is directly from the Steam page regarding EA Play:

You can see it here, under the frequently asked questions.

If you need more help, please don't hesitate to either make a new post, or jump onto one that's newer.
