FC 26: Routing through USA causes 1000 ms ping spikes

Hello EA team,

I am experiencing severe latency and lag issues in EA Sports FC 26 caused by incorrect network routing on your side.

My internet provider is Deutsche Telekom (Germany). As the attached traceroute clearly shows, my connection is being routed through France (Zayo) and then to Ashburn, Virginia (USA) instead of reaching a European server like Frankfurt or Amsterdam, which would normally provide stable and low latency connections.

This results in massive ping spikes, sometimes reaching up to 1000 ms, making the game literally unplayable. These spikes cause heavy input delay, laggy animations, and frequent desyncs during matches. While players on other ISPs in Germany such as Vodafone or 1&1 have stable 20–30 ms connections, Telekom users are forced through an inefficient transatlantic route.

The issue occurs at all times of the day and is not related to peak traffic or local congestion. It is also not caused by my connection. Other online titles such as Battlefield 6, Apex Legends, Warzone and others run perfectly fine on the same network with low latency and no spikes. This issue is exclusive to EA Sports FC 26, which clearly indicates a routing or server allocation problem specific to this game.

This problem is not new. Telekom users and EA players have been reporting the same issue for years. Unfortunately, the response has always been generic troubleshooting like restarting the router or checking the connection, which does not address the real routing problem.

Details:
Provider: Deutsche Telekom (Germany)
Affected EA server: 159.153.71.17 (Ashburn, USA)
Observed route: Telekom → Zayo (France) → Level3 → USA
Expected route: EU nodes such as Amsterdam or Frankfurt (CDN77 or EA EU POP)
Actual route: Forced routing to US East Coast (Ashburn, VA)

This issue is reproducible and affects a large number of Telekom customers in Germany. It is also not limited to Telekom. Players from other countries and ISPs including the Netherlands, France, the UK and Scandinavia are reporting the exact same routing behavior to Ashburn, USA. This proves the problem lies on EA’s side or with its peering strategy, not with individual ISPs.

I kindly ask that this case is escalated directly to EA’s network or infrastructure team, not closed with Tier 1 support replies. Please provide a ticket or case ID so this can be tracked and referenced properly.

EA has publicly promised improved server infrastructure and better connectivity for FC 26 in Europe. What we are experiencing, however, is the complete opposite. Routing EU players through the US creates extreme latency spikes and gives other players an unfair advantage. This is unacceptable for a competitive online game.

If this is caused by peering decisions with transit providers such as Zayo or Level3, this must be reviewed and corrected as soon as possible.

This issue has already been discussed on Reddit, X (Twitter) and several ISP forums across Europe. Many players are affected. If it is not addressed properly, we will continue to document and escalate it publicly to gather more affected users.

We need EA to review its server allocation and routing policy for European customers and ensure proper EU peering or reassign affected accounts to EU datacenters.

Thank you for taking this issue seriously.

I can confirm the exact same issue from Germany. My traffic is also being routed through Ashburn, Virginia (US) instead of any EU server (e.g. Frankfurt or Amsterdam), which leads to extreme input delay and ping spikes up to 1000 ms.

It’s not an ISP problem — I’m on Deutsche Telekom, but players from many different countries and providers are reporting the same routing pattern. Other online games run perfectly fine, so this is clearly something on EA’s side or their peering agreements.

The worst part is that this happens regardless of time of day, so it’s not related to peak congestion.

EA publicly promised improved server infrastructure and better connectivity for FC 26 in Europe — but routing EU players through the US is the opposite of that. This needs to be escalated to EA’s network and infrastructure team, not Tier 1 support.

Thank you, Cristiano, for posting proof. The more of us speak up with traceroutes, the harder it is to ignore.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue from Portugal. Connection and local latency are stable, but traffic is being routed through the US (Zayo/Lumen in Washington D.C.) before reaching EA servers.

This adds over 100 ms of unnecessary latency, causing severe input delay and sluggish gameplay — even though FPS and connection quality are fine.

    Tracing route to easo.ea.com [159.153.71.17]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    8 18 ms 17 ms 19 ms zayo.baja.espanix.net [193.149.1.109]
    9 110 ms 108 ms 119 ms ae17.cr1.cdg11.fr.zip.zayo.com [64.125.30.213]
    10 106 ms 106 ms 110 ms ae4.cs1.cdg12.fr.zip.zayo.com [64.125.20.112]
    12 105 ms 104 ms 105 ms ae20.cr1.iad21.us.zip.zayo.com [64.125.23.217]
    13 104 ms 111 ms 104 ms ae7.er1.iad21.us.zip.zayo.com [64.125.22.55]
    14 107 ms 107 ms 105 ms 216.119.6.30.IPYX-276823-900-ZYO.zip.zayo.com [216.119.6.30]
    15 107 ms 107 ms 105 ms ssx.gos.ea.com [159.153.71.17]

I've tested with multiple ISPs, DNS providers, and VPNs — the routing issue remains. This seems like a backend infrastructure problem, not a game bug.

EA really needs to review this and make sure EU traffic stays within Europe. I can provide more data (WinMTR, traceroutes, etc.) if needed.

    I have the same issue...

I did a similar post few days ago.

Yeah, exactly the same here. I’ve tried literally everything on my end too — DNS changes, VPN tests, router settings, Cloudflare WARP… nothing fixes it. The issue isn’t local, it’s clearly EA’s routing/peering problem. All other games run perfectly fine, only FC 26 is affected.

EA really needs to escalate this to their network team instead of just giving standard troubleshooting replies.

  • You said it best I can't play this game with this lag-I have done evrtthing on my end like downloading cloudfare wrap and nothing has changed other games my pin runs smoothly

    Hello EA Support Team,

I’m located in Portugal, and I’m playing EA Sports FC 25 on PC and experiencing severe input delay and unstable connection in EA Sports FC 26.

After multiple tests, I discovered that my game sessions are being routed through data centers in the United States instead of the expected European servers.

    Diagnostics performed:

    - Direct connection (no VPN, no background apps).
    - Different ISPs and DNS (Google, Cloudflare).
    - Traceroutes consistently show traffic from EU → US → EA servers.
    - ExitLag and NoPing confirm the same routing path.

Here is a concise WinMTR trace while connected to EA FC servers (personal IPs removed for privacy):

    |------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
    |                                      WinMTR statistics                                   |
    |                       Host              -          % | Sent | Recv | Best | Avrg | Wrst | Last |
    |------------------------------------------------|------|------|------|------|------|------|
    |                              104.28.0.0 -    0 | 350  | 350  |   1  |   2  |   5  |   2  |
    |                            172.68.101.1 -    0 | 350  | 350  |   3  |   6  |  20  |   4  |
    |                           198.41.160.34 -    5 | 350  | 332  |  10  |  16  |  28  |  14  |
    |                          198.41.140.232 -   38 | 350  | 217  |  95  |  95  |  97  |  95  |
    |________________________________________________|______|______|______|______|______|______|

This clearly shows that connections from Western Europe are being routed via US nodes, causing latency spikes and input delay.

Please escalate this to the network infrastructure team to verify the routing configuration for EU players.

Thank you for reviewing this — ensuring fair competitive conditions for all players is crucial.

If needed, I can provide multiple WinMTR logs and connection captures at different times of the day — all showing the same US reroute pattern.

    Kind regards,

    Cristiano
