UT slow mo effect and lag

For the past few days, when I play Ultimate Team, after the kickoff, a slowdown effect kicks in, causing excessive lag and making the game unplayable. This problem didn't exist a few days ago. How can I fix this? Can you help? It's driving me crazy.
