Swing Mechanics & the Aim Marker

Really looking forward to EA golf making a return but I can’t help thinking that the new game is picking up exactly where it left off with the Rory game.

I spent most of yesterday evening playing the TW series from 2010-2014 & finished off with a couple of rounds on the Rory game to get a feel of what we’ll be getting with the new game.

The biggest concern I have is distance control for every shot type in the game from Driving through to Putting. The effect that the aim marker has is so dialled in because it provides a backstop on the swing to prevent the player over swinging by a larger margin than about 5-10%.
When you factor in those small percentages on a short shot it really doesn’t have a big enough distance penalty to keep the gameplay engaging & enjoyable. What I’d like to see with the new game is that physical backswing backstop removed from the mechanic & the intent of the markers position be a point in the full swing that the ‘player has to hit’. I understand that the required speed of downswing is dictated by how much over swing (faster) or under swing (slower)  is recorded so I’d like to think there is a way of giving larger penalties.

If I want to hit a SW 80 yards as is I move the marker back to that distance hit the physical backstop on my swing & I know for sure I’ll only be like 10% over distance so with a bit of math you can start to manipulate distances on a consistent basis. Now if you did not have the backstop the player engages with the swing mechanic so much more having to deliver that transition at the correct point in the swing arc to achieve that 80 yard shot and I can assure you that hitting your number in this way is fun which equates to an engaged player base, a game with  depth & longevity.
