Another game review
Hello 👋
been playing the new Skate since it came out (and been playing the Skate franchise since Skate2), and I have some thoughts, complains and suggestions. I’d love to know what you think too!
- The mechanics are still very fun and is still, arguably, the most tight skate franchise BUT, the recurring missions are so boring by now I can probably finish some with my eyes closed. The map says new challenges weekly but it’s just the same challenges repeating. Some of the challenges stay green forever so I feel no reason to go back and replay them, while others just renew themselves without any change. Why is that? For me, that means I play the game less and less. By now, I only go on to get the daily missions for the blue chips. I have ZERO interest in repeating missions for the orange chips, especially as I’ve already bought ALL the boxes in the store. What is the reason of keep stocking on orange chips if there is nothing to do with them?
- the city is cool and full of fun spots why don’t we see more variety in challenges? There are many unused locations that could be fun for challenges instead of the same spots again and again. Maybe, if they rotated 2 or 4 times a month, I wouldn’t care going back and doing them again after a couple of weeks making them feel like new spots again. Also, even if using the same spots all over, at least I hope there’ll be different challenges. Doing the same old challenges gets old fast.
- And if we talking about the chips, I see lots of other problems with it. I finished all blue missions, +the co-operative Own the Lot missions. I got, like 97% of all chips (except a mission or two I didn’t finish), and I STILL don’t have enough chips to buy the whole magazine pass… the magazine pass is ok but it doesn’t even give you back enough SV bucks to consider buying the next one (the reason why Fortnite pass is still the best). There is nothing to do with the orange chips - either make more boxes to open or rotate them every once in a while - I don’t need brand name clothing in the boxes (I understand these should cost players real money) but I wouldn’t mind wasting those orange chips on clothing customization, like plain shirt colors, length, sizes and ways to wear them (like zipped up or down, hoodie on or off, hat to the side or backwards, short socks etc.) or body modifications like hairstyles, tattoos, piercing, backpacks, etc.
- the city itself feels a bit lifeless, even with pedestrians and cars. In previous games, some spots had guards who would chase you. Yes it was annoying at times but it made it feel more alive. I wish there a few “types” of people on the street, who react differently. Same for cars - they just go in circles, never come out of a parking lot, parking spots etc. and we still can’t hang to a back of a car… also, the tutorial was fun but now there are no cool characters to meet after yo finish it. When in previous games you kept finding charcters who gave you missions etc.
- Ok, some good things too - the co-operative gameplay is fun and challenging, I’d love to see some co-op ideas like racing, s.k.a.t.e, creator content etc. we all know and understand the game is in its infancy and I sure hope the people at EA are listening and will upgrade soon.
- the community park and challenges are also fun and I like the changes it brings to the city.
- the music is much better with a bigger variety, which, for me, upgraded the game
- I really loved the secret items (bouncy castle) to be found in the city. I wish and hope EA will grow this idea and make us explore the city for clues, hidden items and surprises.
- what do you think?
