X-ray mode (hall of meat)
Summary:
While fans don't expect a thrasher sponsership to cover an entire game mode, most do expect something comperable to the x-ray setting at the very least. TLDR: X-ray can be in settings again, skate 3 was highly praised for it, and without it the series feels like its going backwards in depth/immersion.
On General Audience alienation:
If players or devs recall, the x-ray specifically was a toggle, and was not on untill switched in settings. If the decision to remove it was made for appeal to a general audience, then a toggle should be able to prevent unwanted graphic content. The game without the option feels drab on crashes. Especially to reoccuring players. Many, if not most fans of skate had skate 3 as their first experience with the franchise, and features like the x-ray made it stay in their memory.
On potential sales & sentiment:
There may be some statistical or algorithmic reason for old, beloved features getting cut like this, as it may have been shown to the game directors to not affect revenue in the long run. This however, doesn't coincide with postive reviews for Skate 3 from its era, talking about how it progressed from Skate 2 with larger-scale lines, and more in depth, immersive features like x-ray.
i should acknowledge that most of these points are in the perspective of understanding risks to revenue. Most fans however, likely wont care for this perspective for EA, and justifiably view these removals as "selling out" or needlessly santizing a respected product to pander to a new audience. This removal can assuredly have effect on the sales preformance of this game, or at the very least long term player engagement.
Concluding:
While 'Skate.' has been advertised as an "evolution" of the skate franchise, it doesnt retain many of its succseful traits that has made it stand out and survive, some 15+ years later. Natural selection will take it's course on this game without added features of depth and immersion. Even if positive sales coincide with a predicted model, player sentiment will wane. In terms of long term succsess, a good place to start is a beloved, pre-existing feature, the x-ray toggle.
Thank you if you took the time to read this, hopefully we get something comperable to x-ray on full release.
