Ok people complaining about the competetiveness. Your opponent is in the same boat as you are in.this is new water for us all. A learning curve is needed.
"Wahhhh we want new stuff," "wahhhh I dont want new stuff ever" are things we hear from the same people.
At a very basic level, you are right: 3v3 TW is new and thus ticks the box of "new stuff". The problem is that it replaces old stuff that we know and enjoy, and isn't actually that new in the first place.
The reason we don't like 3v3 is because you very obviously can't prepare well for it. So saying the opponent has the same problem is disingenuous to guilds that usually do prepare very thoroughly, compared to guilds that just yolo whatever. And people like Yohann or Skylicus lead guilds that aim to be competitive at TW, and they put in a TON of work to do this preparation. Buff Wars are bad enough to prepare for, but the change to 3v3 is even larger and there is absolutely nowhere to test anything, nor is the game ever balanced around 3v3 teams, leading to stuff like DR, BSF, Malak bring pretty much unbeatable except in a mirror or by severely outmodding your opponent. That isn't "fun and playful".
Speaking of "fun and playful", you could argue that the top TW guilds take TW too seriously. CG said it was a light-hearted game mode where they'd give us fun new mechanics (like ban wars, yay), so making a big deal out of this is on us doing it wrong. To which I counter:
1) TW is the only skill-based guild ranking in the game. Competitive people play to be the best, it's one of the common player archetypes. And currently the only way to show your prowess is in TW. So yes, TW is not a "fool around and do whatever" game mode, it's a competitive one where some guilds will put in a lot of effort to beat their opponents (just as some individuals will do that in GA and others sign up and let the AI autofill their defenses). It can be "fun and playful" all CG likes, but as long as it's the only meaningful guild v guild competition, top guilds will take it seriously.
2) It's one of the main sources of zetas in the game. There are 4 TWs a month, and that translates to 4 extra zeta mats per month for guilds that consistently win over guilds that consistently lose. That is over 2 full zetas a year, and that's a big deal with repercussions in GA, arena and the speed you can prepare for pve content. The game has small rich get richer compound rewards all over the place and thus is one of them. It isn't "fun and playful" as long as it has serious rewards.
