Buying GL Tickets from the shop might be worth it

For each point of light/dark side energy in a battle there is a 5,6% chance to drop one GL ticket. So 10 energy nodes have a 56% drop rate that means out of 100 battles from a 10 energy node, I should get 56 GL Tickets.

For each refresh I get 120 energy or 12 battles. 100 divided by 12 is 8,33 so I need 9 refreshes.

If I only refresh 3 times a day I need 450 crystals (3 days).

50 GL Tickets in the weekly shop cost 500 crystals.

That means, if I get more than 500 crystals in two days, it is more efficient to buy the Tickets from the shop once a week and skip out on refreshes for a day or two.

  • What about the crystal value of all the other stuff you would get from those refreshes?

Plus the fact that 3 refreshes per day on normal energy should be business as usual for every player.

Still, the value of those ticket purchases seems unusually good. The worst thing about it, is that it means they have gone further into monetizing GL farms, so that whole ticket thing will never ever go away now. I was really hoping they'd drop it.

They couldn't if they wanted to, regardless of weekly shipments. What about all the people that went through the ticket grind? Some of them for all 7 GLs. There's no way to make those people whole after dropping the ticket farming requirements. They could in theory reimburse an arbitrary number of crystals per GL, but then the forums would be in an uproar about "whales" getting "free" crystals.

At the very least they should fix the events so people don't lose tickets to game crashes (Looking at you JMK event...) - but I think dropping the ticket system was never an option.

They didn't give me anything to make up for when all the toons I farmed 1 shard at a time went double for people from that point on. Why would they need to give anyone anything?

Just at one point go, no ticket farming. Any future GL release, current players benefit from that too. People who did the hard yards already had all this time of owning them, where the other player didn't.

I've farmed 5 and a bit worth of tickets now and I would have zero problem with any player from right now on not having to do that. It doesn't hurt me at all. It would benefit me. Guild mates would be able to get more gp and better teams faster to earn more guild rewards.

This hazing type "I had to go through it, so do you", pass it on mentality doesn't help anyone.

But there's crystals to be sold and money to be made so it doesn't even matter.
  • If you get the GL faster, that could also mean more rewards from GAC, TB, TW, Conquest, etc.

As an analogue to accelerated shards for toons they could halve the tickets required at certain tiers for older GLs. They could do it 2/3 years after a GL is released to encourage even newer players to unlock all the GLs rather than focusing on the latest ones
  • Buying GL tickets is worth it just for your own sanity of reducing the grind alone.
  • If we are talking unlocking an old GL, I would say it is more efficient to not buy the tickets, but instead go ahead to the next farm, or focus on the gear for the GL, only spending energy on the node type you need tickets from.

Spending a little extra time unlocking the GL is more than made up for in time savings on the gear or the next farm, and one more GL isn’t going to move the needle enough in the time it takes to get the tickets from farming to recoup the crystals used.

If we are talking the latest, greatest, newest shiny that may be a different story, but even then I’m not sure at this point in the game it is justified on a ROI basis.
  • Well, if we look at your math, you are saying on a ten energy node, you have a 56% chance of get a ticket. We will take natural energy regen out of the equation. For 250 crystals, you can get 4 refreshes a day (3x50 + 1x100). So in two days, you can spend the same 500 crystals. That gives you 8x120=960 energy from refreshes or 96 attempts at a 10 energy node. 96 x 0.56 = 53.76 so 53 or 54 tickets. Additionally, you get the gear from the farmed node. Therefore, if you are hitting the 56% drop rate, using crystals for refreshes is marginally better than buying tickets with crystals.

They don't make people whole after they buy there way through a new toon with the values set at drop rate of 1 when a year later the drop rate doubles to 2. They're not giving the people who got it early anything back.

Same principal would easily apply. You got your use for all this time. That's your payoff for going through it. I don't know about you, but i don't go writing to Sony that the TV i paid $X for 5 years ago can how be had for 1/3 of the price on a new version of the same model. Things change. People can deal with it.
