Clarity on matchups within GAC Bracket

I would really like to know how match-ups within GAC brackets are determined. I have been smallest account in 14 of my last 15 brackets; and I have been matched against the 2 largest account in every single bracket. There is no way that "random chance" would create those match-ups. Considering I am almost always the smallest account (and usually an underdog anywhere from 800k - 2M) that I would face the 2 largest accounts in the bracket every time.

If anyone has any intel on how the matchups are determined, I'd really like to hear it.
  • Not 100% random for round 3. You can't get matched up with your round 1 opponent. Other than that it must be random; if nobody has seen a definitive pattern by now.

I mean.....even what the OP describes doesn't have a definitive pattern!
  • I know that the primary is a simple binary system. Eight players, matches are between players with the same record. So second round there are four 1-0 and four 0-1 players; third round has two 2-0 players, two 0-2 players, and four 1-1 players. Rewards are for top (3-0), bottom (0-3), three advantage (2-1) and three disadvantage (1-2).
But I assume you want whatever is used as the tie-breaker, essentially how your opponent is selected in each of the groups where there are more than two members.
  • Yeah; I know record is the primary decider. You are correct; I was looking to see when records are the same, how the matchups are created.

For example, in this current GAC bracket (I'm again, the smallest account). Round 1, I got matched against the 3rd largest account (which I won). 2nd round, I got matched against the 2nd largest account (and lost). Final round, I'm matched against the largest account in the bracket.

And match-ups like this seem to happen nearly every single time. So I'm just curious how these match-ups are determined, since in all 3 battles, there were more than 2 people with those records, so I would just like to know what the deciding factors are.
  • For what it’s worth, the SWGOH.GG GAC bracket data is not reliable. For example, in my current GAC I’m matched with someone who does not show in my SWGOH bracket (& it’s not because they’ve changed their player name as no one in the bracket has the same GP or as many GLs). So you can’t really draw any conclusions from it unfortunately

I don't think the match-ups each round has anything to do with the GP. You get a random match-up with the people, who are in a similar win/loss situation like you.

    • First round: anyone random from the 7.
    • Second round: anyone random from the 3 (with the same either win/loss from first round)
    • Third round: anyone random from the 2 (with the same either win/loss from the first and second round). of course if you have won both previous rounds (lost), there is no randomness anymore.

I'm under the impression that players with the same records are randomly paired up each round. I can't think of a reason for it to not be random, or at least GP irrelevant.
  • Some tournaments use the individual points as a tie-breaker. So if you won your first match with only 10 points total, you seed low in the next round groups. Others can use a point differential system, where only the difference you won/lost by is tracked. I haven’t dug into it at all, so I don’t have any evidence to back this for GAC. But if it isn’t random, I would wager it is tied to the points you scored in the last match and definitely not GP.
