GAC matchmaking

CG
Please fix your matchmaking in grand arena .
A skill based rating is not enough .
Roster size and number of galactic legends need to be factored .

How is it fun or fair to play grand arena against players with 1-3 million more galactic power?
There must be something you can do to fix this ?

Thanks

Don’t. Just do your best and enjoy better crystal revenue that we had before. Sometimes you won’t be able to do much and will just wait to see if your opponent is active or not. Hopefully it will stay anecdotal because it’s not fun, no argument there.

Why do you have to do that? What are you trying to gain?

My read is 'When I try, I want to win. If I try to win and lose that's demoralizing.'

All you gain from dropping is winning when you try, rather than winning more. Plus as Starslayer pointed out you'll get fewer crystals.

In my opinion; if you play by the system, the system works.

I hope the irony isn't lost on you that, when you purposely lose and drop, you will outclass someone else and that match will still be "unfair", except to them.

    Hilarious and penetrating perspective

    'stuff'

Well you haven't really addressed my post at all. You definitely didn't address my 3 points. You've just said 'Yeah, but no....'

    I'll address yours though...

' I understand the mathematics behind the system and believed it will all settle.'

Well.........I believed the same. I'm not sure I fully understand the maths involved. However, I understand the system. I truly believe in this system, but I'm slightly disappointed in how it has turned out.

Any 'settling would have been done well before you joined GAC.' So if we have issues, they're issues that aren't going to or are going away.

In the last event, I was matched against two 5m players, they played, soloed most of my defenses. Not unfamiliar situation.

Care to give your SWGOH.GG link to show this? Without it, I can only speculate. If a 5M account (that would have started in (high Chromium probably) has fallen to Carbonite 3, but is now winning easy, what has happened?

    1. They only play 5v5, and when they have time?
    2. They think they're trying to game the system?
    3. They have legitimately fallen this far?
    4. Something else.

It's a definite issue. A new players experience shouldn't be like this. Matching by GP across the leagues though doesn't necessarily need to be a blanket answer though, right? What we need is a way to deal with drops in leagues/divisions due to lack of play or deliberate sandbagging.

And I do totally agree, it's an issue and it's an issue it needs to be dealt with.

The mathematics works but there is a variable that was left out from the equation - **** of players. The variable is far from negligible unfortunately.

Well this is unfair. They don't put all that work into developing the system just to 'you know what' the players. That's a rather immature (and common on these forums) thought. The system works, if the players play (not game) the system. As for the maths behind the system...........well........I don't know it well enough to say it works or not, but I dislike some aspects of it, for sure.

The intention was good but reality check revealed that the system significantly limit fun factor from the GAC and that's a problem. This is a game...

Well here's your argument and extremely valid.

"Yeah, I am winning around 50%, so on paper everything looks fine. However, a lot of the matches aren't competitive or fun."

So, I guess your winning some matches because the other player isn't playing on offence and losing some (as you stated) because you're being wiped off of the dance floor.....

I'm sorry it is this way for you, and it's the same for a lot of players. I have a lot of sympathy, and I hope CG are listening and will address it. I understand your issue totally, and it's a real problem.

However, it's something that needs to be dealt with separately; not totally change the system for every league. Everybody deserves to win and to have good match ups. That wouldn't happen if we went back to GP match making.

  • There is no matchmaking to fix because there is no matchmaking. There isn't any system or hidden factors that go into it.

Everyone is on the same global leaderboard. You just match with the 7 players next to you. That's the whole system. Nothing more to it.
  • I am seeing more and more that it is not working as it should.

I am mainly in Aurodium 3, I've gained 3 good teams + their Omicrons in a very short time. Logically I should stay where I am or even climbing a bit. And yet I actually lose and fall more. The main reason is because of the opponents I face.

I think the reason for that is a Mix of some not liking 3v3 therefor dropping lower, some not always participating or sandbagging. I think the 3v3 just leads to even more higher players dropping so you experience it even more regularly.
It doesn’t even really matter why I face these opponents but is more of a matter of making the whole experience suck.

My last opponent for example set a very heavy defense with 3M GP and a GL more than me, yet he struggled with 5 of my defence squads, needed 2 battles for 3 of them, the other 2 he couldn't clear.

I still lost, eventhough until the last battle before fleets I undersized a lot, made good banners but I couldn't clear the last heavy defence team in front of fleets after I lost the first attempt with my last remaining high enough squad because I had nothing left to even try another attempt that would have worked.

And this is just one example of many. I once had an opponent attempt 13! fights against my Iden squad before they could clear, wich gave them the win, just again because they had a much bigger roster. Iirc it was also something like 3M GP more.

So while I understand why CG does not want to take roster size into MM, it does play a huge role if you have someone with a bigger roster as an opponent. I think what also makes a difference is the number of squads needed in the leagues. In Aurodium for example you already need a lot of squads and if you then have someone as an opponent who "belongs" in Kyber with a much bigger roster, those holds your defence generate mean nothing because they can try again so many times more than you and they in turn can set a much heavier defense.
  • I shouldn’t have to purposely loose and drop divisions
    That’s not fair either

    1. They'll never match by GLs, that's the moneh maker.

    2. Roster size can be a factor, but often zero of a factor. Depending on how many teams you need.

    3. We're seeing accounts beating GPs with more than 5 million more.

Most of these 'style' complaints seem to me come from newer accounts that didn't play (or play much) in the previous style GAC or have a full understanding of GAC in every league.

If you're not winning half your match ups, then you have roster problems. If you are well.....you don't have a complaint.

  • Well this topic might explain a few things.

    https://forums.galaxy-of-heroes.starwars.ea.com/discussion/259716/request-for-official-comment-on-squeeze-gac-league-and-division-targets#latest

    Kyber is shrinking.

I started in A3 and moved up to K4/K3. I then went backwards with the (then) new 3 defensive ship introduction. I'm now swirling between A3-K4 (mostly being in A2). However, I'm significantly better than when I was in K4 just before the introduction of the extra ship.

So........things are definitely getting harder. Kyber has shrunk, the part timers have dropped down the leagues and those little sluggers coming up are blinking frightening!!

Although the instances you describe are mismatches on paper. The actual battles you're describing are competitive. That's how it should be.
