Their game, their choice. I know of people only setting 1 squad not to deliberately stop their opponents gaining extra points rather as a protest against matchmaking.
Then they should be able to screw you however they like with absolutely no benefit to themselves? That's a good thing in your opinion? They can if they want. I'm saying I don't believe they should have the choice. It should auto deploy something to stop this.
If you want to sit out it should be your choice. If you want to play you should get the opportunity. Anyone who chooses to screw someone else should get Zero rewards as punishment for being petty. If you don't want to participate then don't participate and get nothing. Don't act like a toddler, and ruin it for others.
As poor of a mechanic as it is, as long as it exists, it’s their right to exploit it. When auto deploy didn’t exist I didn’t set defenses because I didn’t care, that’s my right. They fixed it, then I can’t exploit it anymore.
My point is that it shouldn't exist. The devs could very easily fix this. There are many rotten things (in game or in RL) that can't be fixed. There are already auto-deploy mechanics in GA. Seems like this particular rotten thing some of CG's customers deal with could be eliminated. Thus this thread existing to let them know what needs to be repaired with this aspect of their product.
Additionally, we have the right to do lots of things we shouldn't do. People can lie, cheat, insult, and irritate others in all kinds of legal ways. I appreciate people who do that because it's partly how I determine who to avoid having anything to do with. If you saying people have a right to be rotten people then I agree. Their ability to do so in this instance can/should be eliminated.
If people want to protest, and be a **** to their competition they could set all their most powerful teams on defense, then not bother to attack. It screws their competitor that round vs the larger pool of players in the whole tournament. I've had that happen to me a time or two. So they still have that at their disposal.
Your last paragraph describes a strategy, not a protest. And yes, it should be eliminated. But you seemed to suggest punishing those who participate in this. That’s not right. It’s CG’s fault for not changing it, not the players for exploiting it.
The last paragraph is NOT a strategy. Setting everything on defense, and not bothering to attack isn't a strategy. But it's acceptable according to the rules.
And it IS the players fault for the choices they make. If someone vandalized your home then saying "you should have a fence up to stop me" isn't an acceptable excuse for them being trashy humans. If someone steals your stuff then it isn't your fault for failing to tell them not to.
CG is partly to blame though. Responsibility isn't all or nothing. People are responsible for being rotten to each other, and someone with the responsibility to prevent that who does nothing also bears a measure of blame.
Those examples don’t apply because your neighbor does t make the rules. If your government has not addressed or made a law about stealing, people can do that. It’s a mean thing to do, but they have every right to do so.
Setting your best toons on defense is a strategy. If you don’t think that they can get through your blockade, you can hope to beat one of their teams and see if your best toons hold them. Or the higher GP player can just toss their Malak, Revans, and GR on defense and good for a tie. That seems like a strategy to me.
First off I said setting all your best on defense, and
not bothering to attack isn't a strategy. You keep not reading that part. It's only viable if your opponent gets zero wins at all and your GP is higher. I specifically said players who want to protest being outmatched, so
not attempting a single attack is not a strategy in that situation. But it's a form of protest people can still do if setting no defense gets fixed.
And you are making my point. Rotten people can do rotten things to others. Lack of a rule doesn't make them not responsible for their actions, and it doesn't mean they should do every petty, childish, mean thing that isn't directly against a law. Everyone who screws over their opponents by only setting one defense to bypass the auto deploy is being a human sphincter and I wouldn't be in a guild with a poor sport like that. I know that it will happen until CG fixes it. It's their job to fix this kind of thing, but only because you can count on a certain percentage of people to be miserable, and selfish, and try to ruin other people's fun.
