How do you get airplane mode to work?

So yesterday I tried to use airplane mode for raids for the first time. I turned it on in my iphone settings, then restarted my SWGOH client to be sure. I did all my raid attacks and didn't notice any diffference. Everything was exactly the same as when airplane mode was off. All my battles posted damage normally with no extra prompts.

Supposedly, I believe, it's supposed to give me an error message when I try to post damage and that I have to turn airplane mode off to post damage. I got no unusual messages and I didn't have to turn airplane mode off to post damage.

So, why isn't it working? How do I get it to work?

This means they'll have software that automatically flags long stretches of statistically unlikely battle outcomes for manual review. And even if someone has never used any shady third party software, their unusually good results might appear that way by sheer coincidence. Add a few fraudulent reports for cheating by arena competitors with a grudge, and there goes the account.

However, the use of airplane mode as a safety net in raids will need lead to "long stretches of statistically unlikely battle outcomes", since you won't be using the airplane mode safety net for most attempts. In the majority of the cases you can withdraw from from the attempt normally using the in game option when things go south. It is only in the fairly rare cases that you get wiped unexpectedly that you will have to rely on the "airplane mode" safety net.

For the record, I don't think it is cheating. My fear is simply that a statistically impossible amount of luck could trigger something that is meant to look for actual cheaters who use hacking tools to manipulate values stored in the memory of their device before they're sent to the server.

Maybe that's an unfounded fear. I've just seen in various MMOs how quickly people were suspended or banned for trivial things that nobody thought were a big deal. I guess I've become overly cautious.
  • Just to help out the OP, you will be able to visually tell if Wi-Fi is still enabled. If you hit the airplane (it will turn orange) and your Wi-Fi icon is not grey with a slash (i.e. still blue, indicating a connection) then you are not fully in airplane mode. Click the Wi-Fi icon to turn it off as well, and it will remember that setting for next time. But double check every time just in case.

Also, there is nothing wrong with using airplane mode, and it has never once gotten anyone banned. It doesn't work in TB or arena, but helps your guild in TW, and helps you in raids and GW. Use it as often as you need it.

From your reaction to the forum edit thing, it does seem that you have a tendency towards unfounded fear. Like Huatimus said, it's the forum's automatic spam filter. It happens every time you edit your post right after posting.

Thanks, that seemed to get it working properly. I'm surprised I'm the only one that I've seen in this game with this problem. Maybe by chance everyone I've talked to or read on the web uses android.

I've seen others, but it's not the default behavior, so it doesn't come up much.

I thought it was the default behavior starting with ios11, according to the article I linked above. I never used airplane mode before this so it was the default on my phone.

Maybe if you had your phone prior to ios11 and had used airplane mode then, it saved your setting when you upgraded to ios11? My phone was purchased December 2017; it already had ios11 preinstalled I think.
