It Sure Is Quiet...

Soooo a massive update dropped, people have numerous questions/comments/complaints about gear requests in chat, Ships 2.0, etc, and the dev response has been...silence (5 days without a dev reply while all these questions are still being asked is too long, especially since we now have a full time Community Manager)?
C'mon CG, I thought we were past this!

Considering the box office for Solo, who knows if there will be another story movie, which will have an significant impact on this game too.

There probably will, athough not necessarily connected to Solo. In the bigger shceme of things, it was a minor hiccup (more than compensated by other movies) or an experiment (which resulted in some insight about marketing, timing and release cadence), not the end of an entire line of projects. I personally think it was released at the time and in the way it was to test the waters, now that the results are in they will adjust their schedule accordingly and carry on.

Analysts say Disney might lose 50m to 80m on the most expensive sw movie, if you are the management or board members of Disney, what are going to do?

“Let’s make more and toss the rest of our $” :D

Market is very sensitive, you lost once, people start to lose interest and think it’s no longer cool, so you lose all.

Avengers and Justice League are on the trend, sw is past, admit or not.

You have to account for why it was so expensive, too. The cost was inflated by the ridiculous amount of reshoots (80% of the movie, if I remember correctly), that could have easily pushed it into the negative. And frankly, what is 80m compared to the billions made by the rest of the new movies? No, Star Wars is here to stay.

Wind has changed, stay for how long, that’s the question. Next one is better or worse, I have my expectations like everyone else, probably not better, btw, I chose not to watch so I am not financially or emotionally supporting it, can’t wait for Venom to come out!

They didn't flop, though. The only new SW movie that isn't a box office behemoth is Solo.

Maybe flop wasn't the correct word. They made money? But the story sucks. I was trying for a more PC phrase...

The correct phrase would be that you (along with a significant portion of hardcore fans) didn't like the story. I am not a big fan of the new trilogy either, but let's face it, hardcore fans don't make or break a franchise. I would consider Solo a movie for hardcore fans, and it struggles. It's the casuals who bring in the money necessary for a francise to be successful, and the new movies did achieve that. And as long as the main story movies bring enough dough for other projects, I will be ok with them being rather mediocre...

I will admit that the movies should cater to a newer audience, but not at the expense of the fan base. A lot of movies today are all visual effects and no story telling, which jives with the younger crowd. Yes, ANH was cutting edge and developed a lot in the late 70s, but that was a different time, when scifi wasn't popular. It's a shame that production studios are all bottom line and not about masterful story telling. I disagree with you on as long as they're pumping out projects, that mediocrity is acceptable. Sometimes we just need to leave a great franchise alone, let it go, to use a Disney term.

Most of the people bashing the new films forget just how bad some parts of the originals are. (yes, I'm referring to 4,5,6. Especially 4). No SW movie is flawless. Rogue One and Solo are both easily in the top half of SW movies and Ep7 and Ep8 are both about middle-to-low end of the pack.

Don't get me wrong, there are awful moments in any movie, and can't really be helped due to the diversity of the audience. I didn't think the FA had a plot, but felt more like a rehashing of ANH. TLJ was better, but because it was a continuation, it fell flat, IMHO.

  • What I meant was that mediocrity in the main series is acceptable as long as it fuels other, better projects aimed at more niche audience, like Solo. Just hope that they don't cut similar projects because of its BO loss, but I don't think it is particularly likely.

If Solo was on par with rogue one, being there is only one mainstream movie left, which I doubt will be any better, I reluctantly agree. Kenobi shouldn't happen, IMHO. I am hoping that the Story movies are good. But disney...

Marvel releases huge successes within months of each other. The problem is Kathleen Kennedy and the Star Wars brand will continue to suffer until she's replaced or decides to make vastly better movies.

They've admitted they had no overarching story structure for the new trilogy and it shows. Add to that KK's public appearance where she says she doesn't care what male Star Wars fans think, plus her turning Star Wars into Social Justice Wars, and the real problem comes into focus.

    Lol at “continue to suffer”

The Star Wars brand is not suffering.
