B) with temporary ban (this is definitive zero, right???)
I think temporary bans are fine on case-by-case basis
I'm thinking of players who were knowingly exploiting stuff here, and not hacking the game or modifying battles illegally
No, let's not cross that line for various reasons.
I say it is extremely unlikely for a player to get reported by another player for finding exploitable bugs. If a player exploits a bug that has been red-flagged by CG or EA (we have a half-functioning website for that) then no, temporary ban is not acceptable, and if we are talking about an exploit that has not been acknowledged by EA/CG (and is not a hack or modifciation either) then I see no reason to punish the player at all.
But I really do appreciate your effort to relativize LD-s negotiation with the cheaters without actually mentioning his name, while partly-quoting a post that directly called him out on it. Spectacular work.
lol I'm not trying to "relativize" LD's thing and I've always expressed dissatisfaction and disappointment over the whole thing
I'm not going to defend LD over it, or am I here to defend him (he can speak for himself)
I am thinking of the daily challenges sim bug, that a bunch of players, in secret, were exploiting where you could sim any weekly challenges an extra time, so when Zeta mats were first released, as part of the fleet challenges, some players were simming it 3 times, knowingly exploiting the bug without CG's knowledge while keeping it secret
I quite honestly think that CG needs to come out, announce it on an official place, like the devtracker ot the bugforum and red-flag it. It is THEIR screwup, not the players. I also quite honestly think that everyone who exploited it before red-flagging the bug should get away with whatever they got. That is, if they did not use a third party software. AFTER the red-flagging, temporary ban should not be an option either.
Thirdly, I reported approximately 10 bugs just in this year, and prolly 20 more last year. I also read the bugreports very frequently so I will go and say that vast majority of these bugs are not desirable to the players, nor can they willingly exploit it, and lastly these bugs do not have an obvious and immediate effect on their PVP performance.... which again means they will not get reported by another player. Okay, there are exceptions to each of these points but what is the percentage of all of the reports created because of issues like this?
Of course you can have a system that goes after these people, who cares. Maybe LD finds a way to negotiate some revenue from it for the company lol. My suggestion started with "# of reported players this week". Simming for extra zeta/omicron/r9 mats does not create impossible battle results.
But if CG rejects the responsibility for their horrible coding skills then a temporary ban is not fit for these kinds of exploitations imo.
