I totally see what you're saying, I think the issue lies with the free crystals being tied to both of the arena modes at all. It's very discouraging, shoulda spent my hyperlight bundle on a fresh account.

This is the big decision for returning players - pick up from where you left off - including any friends you may have made in your shard - or start fresh against others with a similar starting point.
wven during the first year of this game some were restarting to get a more favourable shard.
at least it’s just the fleet arena where this is a big problem now.

Getting behind shard mates in arenas and getting behind on marquees and the bonus shards you can get if you are playing the game when they launch - a couple things that handicap players who have taken a break. At the same time this is a game that rewards people who log in multiple times each day.
