What does "Top 10% promote" mean in GAC now?

If I start in Chromium 4 and go 12-0 will I move to Chromium 3? Chromium 1? Next tier?

Or will I move from Chromium 4 to Chromium 3 after going 3-0? Then drop back to Chromium 4 if I go 0-3 the next week?

  • As far as I know. If you go 3-0, 6-0 and so on, you'll move up in divisions in chromium....chromium 3 chromium 2 etc and if you end up 12-0 or probably 11-1 at the end of the event (top 10% in chromium), you'll end up moving to aurodium.
  • You gain rating when you win, and lose rating when you lose. How many divisions you move up will depend on how much your rating has improved compared to everyone else.
  • From how I read this, it means that each week (event), you can move up (or down, also) a DIVISION (Chromium 3 to Chromium 2, for example); and at the end of each month (season), you can move up (or, again, down is also possible) a LEAGUE (Chromium to Aurodium, for example).

Also, i read that "top 10%" means DIVISION 1...so if you're in Chromium 1 at the end of the month (season), then you are promoted to Aurodium 5 next month (season). and again, demotion, or relegation, is also possible if you finish the month (season) in Chromium 5, then you go down a LEAGUE to Bronzium.

again, that's the way that I understand it....i think i'm right, but with this bunch who knows???

    MATCHMAKING
First, let’s dive into how the Matchmaking system will be reworked as it will impact many of the other changes that are discussed below.

Grand Arena will now use a more traditional ladder system based on Skill Rating. This means your progress in Grand Arena is now detached from your GP and you will climb the ladder over time instead of trying to reach the top each Season. Each Season will still last 4 weeks but players will now only move between Leagues at the end of each Season and Division changes can occur after each Event.

Upon entering the new GAC, Players will be granted a starting Skill Rating based upon their Galactic Power. Initial seeding of League and Division is then based upon this Skill Rating. After that point, Skill Rating will only be updated through Wins and Losses during a GAC.

Your Skill Rating will be adjusted after each event and the group of opponents you face will be matched based on your Skill Rating. All players that finish the season in the Division 1 (the top 10% of the League) are promoted into the next League up and players in Division 5 of their League (the bottom 10%) will move down. (NOTE: You will not face another player outside of your League)

Thanks! So they basically reseed the ELO (Skill Rating) after each 3 match round and when your ELO is in the top 10% of all ELO's for your Division you move up to the next group.
  • sorry if i'm misinterpreting what you wrote, but i think the top 10% promotion thing will only happen at the end of the season, not exactly when you hit DIVISION 1 in your league

Yes that is what I meant, I didn't type it correctly but you have to be top 10% of ELO at end of season.

The second part is the one I'm more curious about. How will these division changes occur after each Event? If you go 3-0 or 2-1, do you bump up a division? Does it recalculate your ranking based upon Skill Rating and basically re-seed the divisions after each 3 round Event based upon Skill Rating?

The way ELO works in other games is basically win and it goes up based on difference between the two ELO's. Since most ELO's will be very close to the same a nice win streak will race you up the standings.

The 8 man pods are set before match 1, then 1-0's play each other, 2-0's, etc. At the end of the 3 matches they will re-order based on ELO. You could jump up from Bronzium 3 to Bronzium 1 or maybe just further up in 3, or even drop down depending on how you did. Then it re-pairs in 8 man ponds for round 2, etc. At the end of a season Division 1 swaps with Division 5 in the higher division.

I was just looking at the global ranking tab for my division and the people that are listed at the top have lower skill ratings than many of the other people so I’m not sure that part of the system is working correctly, unless rank is not based on skill rating but something else.

It doesn't reorder until the first round of 3 matches is done.
