The Sims 1 Legacy: Resolution Issue

Hello everyone,

I'm facing a resolution issue with The Sims 1 Legacy. Everything is working perfectly; the game starts normally with no errors or other anomalies. However, it starts in a very small resolution in the upper corner of the screen, while the rest is all black. The clickable area is as if the game is in full screen, making it impossible to play as I have to "guess" which black part of the screen I need to click to access the game functions.

This is how the game starts without applying the custom scaling. Notice that the clickable area in the upper menu of the game is actually in the black part of the screen where the mouse cursor is pointing.

Before posting on this forum, I tried several solutions and found some temporary fixes. The issue seems to be related to Windows window scaling. For some reason, the game is conflicting with the recommended Windows scaling (in my case, 150% due to my 4K monitor with a resolution of 3840x2160). A temporary fix I found is that if I opt for a custom scaling (any value between 100-500), the issue is resolved, and I can play without any resolution problems. However, this scaling is applied equally to all connected monitors (yes, I have 2, one 4K and one Full HD), causing one or the other to have a huge or extremely small Windows interface.

Additionally, my computer has been recently formatted. I've reinstalled the driver for my graphics card (Nvidia RTX 3070) multiple times and tried adjusting the game's individual settings to no avail. The only way I can play is by setting a custom scaling.

Could anyone provide a more permanent solution to this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

I unplugged one of the monitors and the problem persists. There seems to be a conflict with the Windows recommended scaling of 150%.

I also tried using the options and the problem persists.

If you disconnect your second monitor, does keeping the custom scale affect the game?

Have you also tried using the "-monitor:0" or "-monitor:1" launch option?

sambonzthe threads you mentioned are a bit different from the issue occurring in my game. It starts with the screen very small in the upper left corner, but the entire clickable area is in full screen.

hpzgreenblock I have already tried these settings, enabling 'Program DPI' and even all the options in 'High DPI scaling override', with Application, System, or System (Enhanced). The only difference is that instead of being in full screen with most of the screen completely black (as shown in the picture I attached to the post), it displays the desktop with the game positioned in the upper left corner. Unfortunately, after trying various combinations in 'Change high DPI settings', the problem persists.

In the image, the 'Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: System (Enhanced)' setting is selected, but the issue occurs with any other selection as well.

It's not the same issue, though. The tiny UI in 1080p is just a questionable design decision. In this case the game has real issues due to the difference in scales between monitors. Bumping those threads would be useless to his specific issue as the literal touch areas on the neighborhood are misaligned.

Anyway, have you tried changing other settings in the compatibility mode for "sims.exe" inside the THE SIMS 25 install folder? Especially all the ones at "override high dpi scaling" drop down?

Yep! A couple of threads here and here - please feel free to bump them so they get EA's attention. 👍

  • Is anyone else experiencing the same issue or knows how to fix it? I'm really having trouble playing because of the Windows scaling. 😭

  • I tried to solve it by doing what is shown in the video, but the problem persists. It only gets 'fixed' when I apply a custom scale in Windows itself. 😢
