robinbear80 I haven't seen this reported either, but it does go with the theme of something being wrong with the world layer, or whatever the technical term is: sims can't collect insects or interact with open water, as if the ground isn't the ground; and I guess there's this too. One thing I'm curious about is if it matters whether the house is on a foundation.
If you want to try a (very imperfect) workaround, try positioning the camera so that you're clicking through another object to where the sim needs to dust for fingerprints. As an example, some players report that clicking through the hull of a boat allows them to tell their sim to fish underneath. You're obviously not going to place a boat in a random house, but some other surface might work too.
If you find an object that works but the house doesn't have it, you can bring up the cheats console (cmd-shift-C in this version, for some reason), enter testingcheatsenabled true , shift-click the ground of the lot, and select "Buy on This Lot." That will allow you to place what you need to and sell it afterwards, or possibly (I don't remember whether this works) place it back in your household inventory for later use. It would be inconvenient but probably better than not playing the career at all.
Ok thanks I’ll try it. I tried in two different houses that were both on foundations. I rotated the camera quite a bit because I thought maybe I wasn’t clicking the object, a wall may have been in the way. Interestingly enough, it did give me the option to possibly steal the cabinet so the game knew I was clicking on a cabinet.
