Can't Install Sims 3 Store Content

Can't Install Sims 3 Store Content at all. I keep getting the installation failed because of software updates. I've even gone through the sims 3 super patcher (which is clearly not needed since Origin provides the patches), and even "decrapifying" the items and it will not install. As for proof of purchase, I did provide a screenshot below so I am not sure what is going on. Thank god this isn't an item I really need badly for me to enjoy the game but this is super disappointing that this is how my free simpoints got wasted. I've even done what's been posted before on here and NOTHING has worked. I don't plan on uninstalling the game either or restarting my computer because I shouldn't have to be doing that.

  • @PrincessWolffie  Just to be clear, the Super Patch should never be run on an Origin/Windows install, since, as you said, Origin has already fully patched the game.  In fact, running the Super Patch can break this kind of install.  Please make sure the game itself still launches and you can load a new save; if you can't, that needs to be addressed first.

As long as the game is running, you shouldn't have to uninstall and reinstall though.  Store content works just fine in Origin installs, at least most of the time, and when it doesn't, reinstalling isn't usually helpful.  What you can do, if you haven't already, is move your Sims 3 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you open the launcher, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just see whether you can download one item from the store.

If this still doesn't work, try a different browser; Firefox and Internet Explorer work better with the store than Chrome.  One possible issue is that files get corrupted during the download process, but using a different browser should help.  And try initiating the download both ways: by clicking the Download button directly on the item, and by checking the box next to the item and clicking Download in the upper right corner of your screenshot.  You can also try to download directly from the product page for the item in question.

I realize some or even all of this might be a repeat of what you've already heard.  But since you didn't mention the other approaches you tried, I listed the most commonly helpful steps.  If they don't or didn't work, let me know.

By the way, do you happen to have multiple EA/Origin accounts, for example one tied to the store and another that installed your game?  If the product key for the game install doesn't match the key on file in the store, the store content won't work.

By the way, restarting your computer is the single best troubleshooting step you can take overall.  That doesn't mean resetting anything, just restarting instead of shutting down.  This fixes a number of issues without any further intervention and should always be the first step.

  • I forgot to mention this hilariously got resolved. I just simply moved the entire documents folder and had the game generate a new one and I was able to install my store items. :D

Not really sure what happened to the old folder or what could have caused it.

@PrincessWolffie  I'm glad to hear the issue is fixed.  There are a lot of ways the user data folder or its contents can get corrupted.  Most of the time, it's easier to just move the entire folder to test, then add back what you want from the old folder once things are working again.

You may want to periodically back up the entire folder just to save yourself some time in the future.  This will preserve your saves as well as all your installed store and custom content, in case anything like this happens again.  I keep two extra copies of the folder on an external drive and delete the older one when I copy over a new one.

    Hi, having a similar problem.

I've gone through the game launcher and installed my previous (many, many) store items.

I've gone though downloads in the main menu. At first it says installed, but whn I go back the the main menu, nothing!

    This is getting frustrating, help!

@lorica1  Try installing your store content into a clean user data folder.  Move your entire Sims 3 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, open the launcher to create a clean folder, and download and install one store item.  Check in-game to make sure it's still installed.  If it is, you can install a handful of items (no more than about six) and check again.  It's always best to install content in small batches, since the launcher doesn't handle large amounts of data very well.  Worlds are large and should be installed separately, not in a batch with anything else.

If you get all your store content installed and working, you can move the rest of your content from the old user data folder to the new one.  Here's a list of everything you'll find in that folder, along with explanations, so you'll know what you might want to keep:
