Game closes on its own

Hello, I've been having this issue for over a year now so I had stopped playing but I tried again on my MacBook Pro and The Sims 3 still closes on its own within 5 minutes of me playing. I can't log in with my account on the main menu and the launcher now crashes with a crash report when I launch the game or when I click any tab that isn't the play button.

Here are my game and Mac specs if needed

  • flyugyeom  The launcher crashing is a known issue:

For the inability to login at the Main Menu, open Keychain Access, in Applications, Utilities, search for sims3 , and delete any entries you find.  This should reset the login process.

For the rest, try renaming or removing the Sims 3 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts.  This will prevent your saves and other user content from loading, but the files will be intact and can be restored later.  In the interim, don't add anything to the new folder; just start a new save and see how it runs.  If you want to change any graphics settings other than the resolution, do so at the Main Menu and quit to desktop before loading a save.

Test in Sunset Valley and let me know how the game runs.  If you get another crash, try again but with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi before opening the launcher.

  • I'm not sure if I went to the right place but I found nothing with sims 3

I took out my Sims 3 folder and started a new save in Sunset Valley, didn't get any crash (beside the launcher) and the game ran smoothly. Could be it be because of some mods or CC, I have around a 100 in the mods file.

  • flyugyeom  I'm running an older version of macOS than you are, so I don't see exactly the same options in Keychain Access.  But this is how to use it (French version); choose your OS at the top of the article to see specifics for your setup.

The crashing issue could definitely be related to your mods or custom content.  But it's difficult to say which file in particular might be an issue without testing, although you can compare your list to the one here and remove anything mentioned:

Other than that, you'll need to test your content manually.  Do so in batches or use the 50/50 method:
