My game keeps crashing once I start to create a Sim or start to pick its sleepwear. It is getting really annoying. I stopped using the items from the exchange store in the game and it still keeps crashing. Sometimes the screen turns black and stays like that, or when I go to save the game it won't save and says there's an error.

you might still have some bad CC in there check this thread to see what to do http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/234888.page
also check the electronicsarts/thesims3/CurrentGame.sims3 if there are any files in there delete them as they will also preven your game from saving once one saves and quits that folder empties it's self but if a save was bad or error code the files get left in there so they need to be deleted
once you find all the bad CC delete the cach files go to electronic arts/the sims 3/
•CasPartCache.package
•compositorCache.package
•scriptCache.package
•simCompositorCache.package
•socialCache.package.package
it's safe to delete these files as a new ones will regenerate

I couldn't find any files. I tryed to do what the forums say but the game still crashes. Are there any other ways besides unistalling and then reinstalling the game?
Please post the exact error you get. Is your computer a pc or mac?
The error code has stopped popping up so the game is saving fine now! I have a pc
But it does still crash when i use create-a-sim.
I have had the same problems ......crashing in CAS and error 12.After installing into the future I dropped the graphics settings in game to the lowest.I have not had an error 12 nor had the game crash since.I have tried everything else to fix these issues and found the simplest idea actually worked.
I have windows 8 which the game isn't compatible with but the game ran perfectly fine till I downloaded certain Sims/pets or clothing from the exchange. I have uninstalled most of the stuff from the exchange. I was able to play the Sims for an hour today without it crashing and then it just crashed now.

When doing the factory reset, do I copy the whole Sims 3 folder?
