AntelopeTM This is the path for a 64-bit Mac install:
[install location]/Sims3Launcher.app/Contents/Resources/The Sims 3.app/Contents/GameData/Shared/NonPackaged/Worlds
Right-click an .app and select Show Package Contents to open it. Sims3Launcher.app shows as "The Sims 3" with a green plumbob.
You'll only see Sunset Valley.world inside the folder because the packs' worlds are stored here:
[install location]/The Sims 3 Packs/EPxx/GameData/Shared/NonPackaged/Worlds

Thanks so much puzzlezaddict – no wonder I couldn't find it! I managed to locate the right folder now with your instructions, but unfortunately the workaround Norn provided still didn't work for me.
It's very annoying not to be able to install custom worlds, so I hope EA does come up with a patch to fix this issue soon.
