Mac crashing

Hi,

Like others, I am having the unfortunate problem of my game crashing while playing. The expansion packs I have are pets, seasons, late night, and high end loft. I play on Appaloosa plains. I will be in the beginning of my gameplay when my screen flashes red and the game closes out of itself. I will try to load back up and the launcher works perfect right up until the game actually loads into the world and it crashes and says it unexpectedly quit. I have cc downloaded but its not the issue. What works is dragging the Sims 3 folder onto my desktop and launching the game. I re-add my cc folder and the game still works. When I try to re-add my saved games folder, it doesn't work. So I guess its the save? But it happens with every new save, I get about 20 minutes into gameplay and then it crashes. I don't see any pattern in the crashing it just does it unexpectedly. I will continuously "save as" during my gameplay but that doesn't even matter as I can't load that save up anymore once it first crashes. I have tried deleting the cache and it doesn't help.

My specs are: MacOS Monterey 12.7.6

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)

Processor: 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2 GB Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

I literally have ~930 hours in this game from over the years and it sucks that it doesn't work well on a mac!! :(

  • jewelbyrnes  Does this happen if you enable object hiding?  Please change the setting at the Main Menu, and quit to desktop before loading a save.

If this doesn't help, how far are you getting into your saves, in sim-days?  Does the same thing happen if you play in Sunset Valley?  Appaloosa Plains is generally stable, but there are a couple of issues that can cause performance to drop or even trigger a crash under the wrong circumstances.  For example, baby animals can't navigate stairs, including the stairs in some of the homes where they live in AP.

It's also worth pointing out that custom content can be the issue even if it causes no problems right away.  Some cc is fine until a sim is actually wearing it, or the wrong sim is wearing it.

Ok so actually I had a really successful gameplay last night!! I windowed the tab and it stopped crashing. I was able to play for hours. Before I wrote up this forum, I kept trying to window the tab but the command wasn't working. But then, it finally did, and I think literally just doing that fixed it from crashing. And yes it would still happen when I would enable object hiding.

Thank you for the help anyways though!!

  • jewelbyrnes  It seems that cmd-return doesn't work for a lot of people, not sure why.  (It's always worked for me, on three different Macs, all with different specs and OSs.)  But in the future, if you want to switch to fullscreen or windowed mode and the command isn't working, you can edit Options.ini, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3.  This file contains all the game's options, and you can search for fullscreen and set it to 0 or 1.
