Sims 3 Won't Open Past Launcher

I own the 64 bit version of the sims 3 on my Macbook Air (m3 chip) and play it quite often with no problem. I opened the game last night just fine but all of today the game suddenly would not get past the launcher except for maybe once. I feel like the problem may be with the launcher itself because when I click on anything in it, it goes straight back to the EA app. When I press play it just goes to a white screen and says it's loading until eventually it just says its not responding and I have to force quit. I've tried everything I know to do. Clearing caches, uninstalling and reinstalling game AND ea app, taking out ALL mods, etc. I haven't even been on my Macbook since last night when I played it last so I haven"t changed anything at all. Not sure why it's suddenly not working. I would also like to mention that when the game DID open the one or two times, things were wonky and not functioning like before and eventually crashed. The picture is of what the screen gets stuck on each time. Any help would be greatly appreciated since I have put some money into the game and really wanna get back to playing it.

  • x1tms357mhit  The launcher crashing when you click one of the tabs is a Known Issue on Macs with the newest OS installed:

Launcher crashes when I open the downloads tab in Sims 3 | EA Forums - 12167613

So it may have nothing to do with your main issue.  For that, please move the Sims 3 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, but don't delete it since you won't be able to reinstall any content through the launcher.  Just see whether you can start a new save with the folder removed.

If the Sims 3 folder copies instead of moving, or you get an error when trying to move it, let me know.

Okay so I did that and it seems to be helping. I was able to get the game to start actually opening before doing that but it would still crash after a few minutes. Now that I moved the folder out I've been able to start a new save with no crashes so far (but only played for a few minutes).  When I opened the game the folder did regenerate in electronic arts (not sure if that's how that's supposed to work) but it did seem to be a fresh start as I had to start a new save.  The only thing now is i'm still having some issues in game that I did not have before like for example my edge scrolling will not work when I never had a problem with it before.

  • x1tms357mhit  The game is supposed to create a new user folder, otherwise it wouldn't work at all.  Please make sure your new save works in general before we move on.

For Edge Scrolling, it may be as simple as disabling and reenabling it.

For edge scrolling I did not change anything it just suddenly fixed itself so that's all good now. I played for awhile longer and still haven't had any issues or crashes thankfully. I think my problem is fixed now. I just need to know if it would be okay to move my mods and such back into the folder or would that likely bring the problem back?

  • x1tms357mhit  Try adding your mods back, alone, and see what happens.  If everything is fine, try the contents of one other folder, and then another, and so on.  Here's a description of everything in the user folder so you'll know what you might want to preserve:

If adding your mods back causes problems, split them and retest until you find the culprit.  The 50/50 method can make the process much more efficient:

    https://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method

This works equally well for .package-based content.  Store content should be fine, but for custom content installed through the launcher, you can use Method by Mell on this page to try to find the bundle that contains the bad cc:

If you run into trouble with any part of this process, feel free to ask for help.
