Bunnymally Then I would suggest installing NRaas Traveler, along with ErrorTrap, Overwatch, Register, and MasterController. The first four do their work without any need for player input; MC does nothing at all unless you use it to issue a command. More information is here:

Once you load the save with the mods installed, let the game clock run for a few sim-minutes, then click the base game map tag and select NRaas > MasterController > Town Options > Reset Everything. The reset can take a few minutes to run, depending on the speed of your computer. When it's done, you'll get a notification. Let the game clock run for a few more sim-minutes, then send your sim home.
If this doesn't work, repeat the process, except with some additional steps to lower the stress on the game engine during the transition:
- Empty out your sim's inventory as much as you're willing. Having a few items is fine, but not a hundred.
- Run the same MC reset again, and "save as" to create a new save.
- Exit to the Main Menu, turn all the graphics options to the minimum. Disable in-game shopping and the interactive loading screens, then quit to desktop.
- Delete the five cache files: CASPartCache, compositorCache, scriptCache, simCompositorCache, and socialCache, even if you have before.
- Reload the save, wait a few sim-minutes, and try to send your sim home again.
If this doesn't work either, let me know. (Although I'd try it twice just in case the game is right on the edge of working in this context.) There's an approach that may allow you to get your hometown back at least, although you'd lose the vacation progress.
As a side note, I wouldn't recommend mods that might damage your saves, let alone your computer. But the more popular NRaas mods have been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times, if not more, and have been proven to be safe and reliable. They're still supported too, now on their own site.
