The Sims 3 Crashes at Loading Screen

I just installed the Sims 3 for the first time.  The install was successful.  When launching the game, the game plays through the intro video and gets to the loading screen.  Then my computer completely crashes and must be restarted.  I am running Windows 7, 2.4 GHz processor, and 4 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600 video card.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Update: Switching to windowed mode allowed the game to load father, but it still did not make it to the neighborhood screen before it crashed.

    Hello,

I'm having difficulty playing the game. After I installed Sims 3, High End, Ambitions, and Pets, it worked fine for a few days, with the exception of a couple crashes during scrolling. the first time it stated that the display driver accelerator stopped responding but recovered.

Then today,  before I even completely load the game, it crashed just before it finished loading the family selected in Pets.

Though I have enclosed screenshots of my dxdiag, I'll list here.

    System information:

    (today's date, my pc name)

    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)

    Direct3D Acceleration: Enabled

    AGP Texture Acceleration: Enabled

    Notes:

    .  No problems found.

The rest is in the screenshots provided.

    Here is what happens.

I signed into Orgin. My games, play Sims3

It loads to the welcome screen Sims 3. Game says it is up to date in updates.

When I click on the arrow to play, the screen will load to the last expansion pack I installed (Pets).

This installs fine. I get to the screen where I can pick a family and play, it will load until it is almost done loading and then it crashes to a black screen, frozen and I have to force shut down (otherwise, it will stay on black screen).  Sometimes, it just crashes my graphics driver-> where I can get back to my windows screen, and there is a white message saying:" Display driver Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows XP(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered."  I don't quite understand this because I don't have Windows XP, I have Windows 7.  The drivers were installed when I started up automatically the first time I bought this computer.  I have windows on automatic updates.... i did once have to have the hard drive replaced and that was done by a professional. I did not re-program anything myself.

To further investigate thinking these events are linked, I googled the message and looked at several pages from Intel.  I downloaded Intel Driver Update Utility, and it stated that I could update my chipset and a wifi something or other. But for the graphics, it said to consult with Toshiba to download the driver from there.

At the Toshiba site, I put in my model number and checked for updates to the display driver.  According to toshiba (and my diagnostics), I have the latest driver installed (8.15.10.2189).  I didn't update the chipset (from the Intel diagnostic Utility) because I didn't want to update one just yet . I wouldn't know if the new one suggested would be OK with the graphics message not fixed.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.  I just bought Sims 3 starter pack, Ambitions and Pets on 9.20.2015. I really would like to play. šŸ™‚ Thanks very much for your assistance.

    Hi @lovelightm,

I don't really think that your graphic driver is updated. DxDiag dates it at 2010, five years ago! Intel recommends to use this tool in order to get Intel HD Graphics updates for your i3 380M processor, give it a try and check if you can update drivers.

Hello, thank you for your response. šŸ™‚ And yes, I saw that too. I tried having my computer update it, said it is the latest version.  I tried two different ways via my computer updating system and got the same message that it was the latest version. it very well may be, like, the LAST version they made of it. "/

I tried the Intel Driver Utility, which says I can update a chipset and some wifi something or other, but for the driver, it said that mine was customized by the manufacturer of my computer.  They said to go to Toshiba to ask them. I did.... I got no where.  When I did a search for my driver, it says it is the latest one. "/  Can't be because it is crashing and I wouldn't get a white flagged window/from my comp message. There has to be an update for it, especially at Toshiba! I ended up joining their support message board to ask for help.  If they updated the driver that was installed with mine since, to a new one with new numbers, course I wouldn't find an update for what I do have.  I am afraid to manually update it until I understand the directions better. I only ran through it. A few times. LOL

I too am pretty sure it is my drivers. Until I can find an update and solution otherwise, my sims 3 will have to wait. ā˜¹ļø thanks again for your response, I bookmarked the link to go back to it. Am going to read through it again. I'll write a solution when I have one in case others need the info.

  • is it just me or it just seems that sims 3 and windows 7 don't really work well together. because I too had my original sims 3 on windows 7 and it gave me a flashing screen problem. which most likely was the graphic on the computer. the weird part is that too was a Toshiba!

But now I have windows 8 on an HP and the game works good!

I truly don't understand it. LOL I had it working fine for three days.

So now since Toshiba hasn't answered me, I am researching for another computer to play it on. I won't buy another Toshiba. If they can't answer their customers.....pffftt.....I ain't going to give them money for another computer.

I want to be able to play all the expansions and extra stuff packs. I saw a thread that has some information on it regarding this and now.....only to find one that is not too expensive.  It's easier to find the Nvidia GTX series than the GT's.  Is windows 8 better for the sims 3 than windows 7? And does it work on Windows 10?

I re-installed the drivers and I actually got Sims 3 to work- for only a couple days. I ended up starting a new game and though like before, once I got to a certain point, ie new skills learned etc, crashhhhhhhhhhh......never again will I do Intel graphics or Toshiba for any matter. They still have not answered my question.   Although the laptop I have is still running well, I won't be using this for Sims 3 anymore. SO.
