Build-n-Share #186 **MyHome!** Due 30th November, 2024

Welcome to BNS 185: Let's Play

BNS186 MyHome

As you walk into your office that morning, your eyes are immediately drawn to the colorful envelope at the center of your desk. You pick it up; it’s addressed to you from a town you’ve never heard of and has the most darling postage you’ve seen in a long time. Curiosity piqued, you tear it open and pull out its contents, reading the first page—a letter penned to you—carefully:

Greetings fellow builder,

I’m reaching out to you on behalf of my town. Recently, we’ve had an influx of guests staying indefinitely at our hotel, hoping to move in. Now, I may be a whiz with Essence, but I can’t make plots appear out of thin air. We’re running out of room and I’m falling behind on my orders, so I was hoping that I could outsource some of the work to you.

I wouldn’t normally ask for a stranger’s help on a project I hold dear, but these sims need homes and I’ve heard that you’re amazing at building them. I’m sure that the second they lay eyes on what you’ve built, they’ll be packing their bags and taking the first train out of here towards their new home.

I’ve included the housing request of one of our guests for your consideration. You will of course receive the full commission if you agree to helping us out, as well as an open invite to visit me sometime at my workshop. I’d love to swap stories and Essences with you.

Hope to hear from you soon,

The Builder

You’re not sure what “Essences” are, but as you flip the page and begin reading the guest’s request, you have to admit that the mysterious Builder has your attention. After all, every sim deserves a home. You set the letter aside, sit at your desk, and begin drafting.

The Brief:

-$140,000 budget (no lot cost; the mysterious Builder’s mayor is compensating for the lack of housing space in her town by paying for the lot)

-Choose a MySim from the MySims franchise and create a home for them. Their home must have the following:

-1 bedroom

-1 bathroom

-Living space (living room, kitchen, dining; can be separate rooms or all together)

-A hobby room tailored to the MySim (for example, DJ Candy would likely enjoy a party room, and Dr. F might like a laboratory for his experiments)

-Feel free to get creative; in MySims, many characters use their houses as community spaces, so you’re welcome to treat the hobby room as a “home business” if you’d like.

The Sim Challenge:

-Recreate a MySim of your choice.

-Appearance must be loosely based on the original design, but outfits, likes and dislikes, and traits may be openly interpreted.

The Room Challenge:

-Create the hobby room.

-Budget is $30,000.

Remember to include the hashtag #bns186 with your build or it will not be judged! Entries are due by Saturday,  November 30, 2024, 23:5:59 New York Time/EST

  • Quick question: Can I enter a dollhouse that I've had on the gallery for quite some time. I'm super proud of it and thought of it when I read this challenge.

The example dollhouse in the screenshot is several years old, so I'm going to say  yes as long as it fits the criteria, including landscaping. I look forward to seeing your entry!

I've made a Gothic Victorian -style home for Violet Nightshade. It's located on the Dock Den -lot in Windenburg. The first floor has a living room, kitchen, dining room, a half bath + three porches. The second floor has a hallway/lounge area, a study/home office, a seance room - which I consider to be Violet's main hobby room. The second floor also has Violet's suite (Violet's bedroom & en suite bathroom + her private balcony), a guest bedroom, and a guest bathroom. On the third floor is Violet's small "Candle Factory": there is a candle making station; + there's also a treadmill. In the backyard there's a greenhouse, and in front of the greenhouse is Violet's small home business: Flower & Gift Shop, where Violet sells flower arrangements she makes herself and other self-made products, like candles. Violet is an entrepreneur, she also uses the Plopsy - Online Store, where she sells her self-made products, and that's why she has a spacious home office where she can work on her computer, taking care of her home business.
