Discussion: What could be done to give Sims more unique personalities?
It remains a problem in Sims 4 that Sims just aren't very unique, to me it is the elephant in the room for anyone who has played Sims 3. Even in Sims 1 and 2, sims felt more different based on the personality sliders.
I have a few suggestions for what could be done, and I would like to invite everyone to add to it or expand on it, let's really get a productive discussion going!
-Traits affecting autonomous behaviour more.
It rarely does. Lazy sims will clean on their own, prepare entire meals, and do many other not at all lazy things by themselves. The negative moodlet showing their dislike does not add anything to the game. They also do not sleep longer. So what I would suggest would be for the Sims team to go through all the traits and where relevant, disable the unsuitable autonomous behaviour. And Enable the suitable interactions, making them more likely to perform on their own. Like mean sims could finally actually be mean on their own, flirty sims might flirt, etc.
-Likes and dislikes changing behaviour.
In theory it's a really great system, I was excited when it was added. But it should change sims behaviour, combined with traits I feel like it could be a great way to fine tune your sim's behaviour. The things you set them to like, they should autonomously do on their own. When dancing to music, they should change it to music they like first. The things you set them to dislike, should disable your sims from ever doing those things automatically. You could still tell them to do it.
-More animations.
Playing Sims 2 again through the legacy edition just makes it painfully obvious how few animations Sims 4 has in comparison. It goes a long way to give sims personality in the more general sense.
-Traits getting more unique interactions and possibilities added to them.
They don't do enough, and can be improved in so many ways. I don't want a trait to basically only improve how fast you gain a specific skill or two. That's boring, and won't affect them at all once the skill is maxed out. It would be nicer if they get to do things with that skill that other sims never can. Like if it's a crafting skill, they can craft something no other sim ever could. Maybe they could also require less materials for it, or are able to find more of the required material when they find some of it.
-More traits.
This is the simplest way they can add more personality to sims, 3 is not enough, I would suggest to increase it to 5 to be on par with sims 3.
