Forever Free Packs for Everyone

The Sims 4 is a 10-year-old game with over 100 DLC packs (106), and EA will likely keep releasing more for years. Competing life-sim games like Inzoi and Paralives offers much of this content in their base game. For example, Inzoi can provide content equivalent to 30–40 Sims 4 packs in its basegame for the price of just one expansion pack(40$) and we already have 20 of them.

To stay competitive and keep players engaged, EA should make some older packs permanently free—such as Seasons, Cats & Dogs and Get to Work. Giving 2–4 free packs from each pack category would greatly benefit new players so they can complete other packs without pirating.

For players who already own these packs, EA could offer new Kits free for a month (like they did with Desert Luxe Kit when The Sims 4 became free).

I think forever free packs should be;

2 expansion packs -> seasons, cats and dogs   (out of 20 eps)

2 game packs -> dine out, get to work   (out of 12 gps)

4 stuff packs -> cool kitchen, bowling night, backyard, spooky  (out of 20 sps)

4 kits -> throwback fit, industrial loft, blooming rooms, carnaval streetwear  (out of 40 kits of excluding 11 creator kits and 2 spongebob kits,  total 53)

20 EP, 12 GP, 20 SP, 53 KITS

Yeah, and a ton of us had to buy those packs at full price or if lucky for a more decent price due to a sale. As I see things, if I had to buy it, then newcomers should have to buy it just as well. The fact that there have been some really good sales on older packs recently should be good enough. Expansion packs are 60% off right now.  That is less than the regular price of a Game Pack and slightly more than a Stuff Pack! Newcomers are freaking lucky to have those prices. In turn, this just makes me more set on my opinion.

You wanna play? Then you should pay. I'm totally cool with new players getting DLC for over half the price off despite I might have paid full price as long as they pay for it.

This is the Sims 4. It is not inzoi or paralives. Those two games look to have truly dedicated creators that see their projects as their babies and thus are putting a lot of care into them, much like how The Sims and Sims 2 once had. It is horribly unfortunate the Sims 4 doesn't have that that time and dedication put into it anymore. Nevertheless, though all three games are listed as life simulators, they are not the same game. People need to stop trying to make them be.

Thank you for your feedback!  Didn't actually think about certain logic becoming skewed.  ROFLOL  That would be like a desensitization process?  Some people, not everyone thank goodness, identify with and use it as a release allowing them to avoid the real world in those manners they have become desensitized too?  That would be wild!!!  I freely admit, without shame, that I just am not capable of playing "make believe" in any manner, I see it as lying to myself.  My character flaw.  🤦‍♀️😂

The Inzoi thing with the car, I can understand. While in the Sims franchise you can kill Sims, it often is not a common way to die, not possible in real life and/or made sort of goofy. The Grim Reaper even appears and you can plead with him. Then of course, you can revive their ghost. It is hard to take seriously and often just a fun way to blow off steam.
The behavior with Inzoi... this is already a problem with games that you can really immerse yourself in. Some people who get so used to playing and "living through" games can forget themselves and the physical limits of the real world. The more realistic the graphics, the more realistic the NPCs, VRs and the like... In some ways, even though the players know the differences exist, their minds and bodies have become so used to being able to do things in virtual reality, certain logic can actually become skewed.

I think that the older packs should be free and come with the main game and the new packs, kits etc be bought at a cheaper price than 40 dollars example the Expansion packs.

  • Wonderful ideas you have here!  I personally don't see that happening, tho they have given some packs away for free in the past but all those they gave away for free, I already paid real money for.

I don't do Occults, so a free pack with that, I would not want forced upon me to accept.  There are also many players who have every single pack, ep, gp, sp, kits and the free xmas items they gave out nearly 10 years ago.

It has only been since 2023 that I stopped getting packs when they were 1st released.  Now, I am 5 EP's behind!!!   2 of them I would really like but not with the issues that the release of those caused in my game. Not having those packs but having the issues tells me they are base game changes that went awry.  I invested in Maxis/Electronic Arts now, 25 years ago, literally and even with the new Inzoi out, which is so buggy that I couldn't find many positive reviews about it after the day of release.   The system requirements alone, with the economy the way it is today and so much uncertainty about the future, I will remain happy with Sims 4!

Besides, when I saw inzoi reviews from some players being delighted by the fact that they ran someone over in their car -  in the inzoi game - and literally did the "ROFLOL" and they didn't know who she was and still thought it was hiliarious, starting a fight with someone they don't even know just for fun???  really??? ..... no thank you, not playing Inzoi!  There is enough violence in the world today, don't want to play a game where players are violent for fun , in an open world like we really live in.  I truly believe that if one can behave that way in a open world game then it's likely one would behave that way in the real open world.  Scary!

We already have 90 packs and its coming more and more they can free some packs inzoi and paralives have so many dlcs in their basegame.

  • I wouldn't mind seeing seasons go basegame because then seasons and holiday celebrations could be expanded upon in future DLCs. Beyond that I don't think they need to give any DLC away free. The game is already free, if you want pets, buy the pets EP. They run sales all the time, you can get almost every EP half off at this point. They do plenty of free drops and opportunities in game to get free stuff. If you want the paid DLC, pay for it.

  • Call me a scrooge, but if they were to do that, I'd still want some sort of reimbursement. I'm not saying a full monetary reimbursement, but something significant in return for buying an expansion pack that is suddenly free for newcomers. Old game or not, there are players who have invested an excessive amount of money to own the insane amount of packs and will continue to do so.

Within that, however rests the problem in that newcomers would feel they are being punished for not having bought the packs.

The Kit idea I question for the sake of CC creators who made full kits. They still have chances of getting a little payment for their work via the creator codes. Maybe if they do not include those kits in the free release list, sure.

In the end, the only thing I'd be cool about becoming forever free for all would be Digital Deluxe thing, Kits not made by CC creators and Stuff Packs whose gameplay feature doesn't hold much merit anymore, like the buffet table and hot tubs. Tiny Living, Paranormal, Homes Chef Hustle and Crystal Creations obviously would not be included in the list of "forever free".
