More active job options, post‑marriage name change & relationship complexity.
This is a big range of asks, but I thought I’d put them together in one post. I’ve been playing The Sims since it first came out in 2000, and yet this is the first time I’ve ever joined a forum or shared feedback. After all these years, I still play for hours a day, and the dynamic storytelling is what keeps me coming back.
What I’d really love to see is EA creating a new pack of Active Work options. Careers like the doctor role completely change gameplay and add so many challenges. Expanding this with more detailed artistic paths you can engage with — model, fashion designer, classical or rock musician, dancer, theatre performer — would be fantastic. But I’d also love to see other jobs such as commercial pilot, psychiatrist, zookeeper, laborer, mechanic etc. It feels like such a natural way to extend the game with big impact.
Relationships are the other major reason I keep playing, but they still feel limited. Beyond boyfriend/girlfriend, spouse, or break‑up, I’d love to see more nuanced and dynamic options. The random prompts for proposals and moving in together were great — more of that would add excitement. Friendships could evolve over time, affairs could involve secret interactions between cheaters and spouses, and best‑friend relationships could feel much richer. These kinds of additions would make the social side of the game far more engaging.
And lastly, a small but important fix: when Sims marry, it feels odd that I still have to go into CAS to change their last name. Just like the move‑in prompt, there should be a prompt at marriage asking if they want to change names.
After 26 years of playing, I’d love to see a meaty expansion pack(s) that tackles jobs and relationships head‑on. These areas are the heart of the game and deepening them would keep long‑time players like me even more invested.
