I am also a new Sims 4 player (since L&D) and long time Sims player who play all the installments. I too felt it needed more packs before I could start Sims 4 (well almost skipped it when I thought Sims 5 was coming out) but I also started Sims 3 late (since Supernatural). I also have tried to be very careful to not buy packs that may have features that would annoy me.
But I am the opposite player, I love the occults, but I completely understand how frustrating it is to lose immersion in a game. I wish I could remove cellphones (I have various mods that stop sims from looking/playing at their phone), I don't have builds with computers or tvs, etc. I do need mods, because some things drive me up the wall in this game. But overall I am at a good place with the game—and I am also liking the direction they seem to be going.
I do hope more toggle features and more manage world features get added to give the player more customization. My gawd, I'd love if we could manage large family trees editing via edit/manage world (which include NPCs we usually can't edit/manage (looking at you Nyon Specter and link you up with your Grim Reaper daddy (instead of the long cheat way))).
However, as mentioned in their surveys, they prefer more in depth feedback. Venting/aggro/ultimatum posts can/may just be ignored as they aren't the most helpful and usually lacking details or compromising.
