Action queued by the AI automatically cancelled when player adds new action

Product: The Sims 4
Platform: PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.85.203.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? discover university, eco lifestyle, get famous, get to work, get together, seasons, jungle adventure, parenthood, spa day, strangerville, perfect patio
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Wait for the AI to automatically add an action to an idle sim's queue. Then add an action to the queue.
What happens when the bug occurs? The original action added to the queue by the AI will be automatically cancelled.
What do you expect to see? I expect for the action to be not be deleted since I want to add to the queue with my own action, not have the first action be deleted.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? No
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

Edited to add:

I thought this was a bug but it turns out this was a changed feature of the queuing system. Note that this system did not work like this in previous Sims games (I went back to check). This is now a feedback post that this change from the previous iteration of the Sims is an unwelcome one, in my opinion, for the reasons on which I elaborate in my comments below.

    Heya @Anonymous

I've reviewed this with the Sims team and they've confirmed that this is by design.

@daikoyu I didn't realize how dire it was. The fact that they didn't logically separate unplayed sim behavior and AI for currently played household Sims is truly alarming.

Yeah, its frustrating. Specially if you play with cats/dogs. although I have autonomy off my sim wanted always try pet cat/dog, kiss cat/dog, talk cat/dog, praise cat/dog.

I tried MCC Tuner, trait’s mods for cats/dogs nether worked for me to disable this *forced* AI task. In vanilla I fand then a workaround snowy escape and the heather. Just turn in on and your pet will rather sleep as take care of his needs. (Yes, this thing is so aggressive that pets ignore their needs)

Generally, I think AI from Sims4 are the worst. In sims 3 I played a challenge not long time ago which I only was allowed to control the kid. His dad was the worst, with the stupid&evilst trait I could give him. In the end he was almost enemy with ever sim in town. (Vanilla)

I tried this challenge in sims 4. I gave the dad mean, hot-headed and erratic as traits. His AI was … idle chat with the kid, watching TV and after mischief 2 always troll teh forums, although he hated mischief. (Vanilla)

Yeah, I like that this is the case because it seems like they often want to do something stupid (sorry). They still do things like autonomously stop doing the homework I told them to do in order to get up and complain that they think a chair in their sister's vet clinic is ugly. (Did I tell you you could stop doing your homework?) It's inevitably "Go browse web" or "chat with stranger on the street." (For children, it was inevitably "make a mess" until I used MC Tuner to ban it. For goofballs, it was inevitably "prank toilet" until I used MC Tuner to ban it.)

No, I had another task for you... why are you finishing your vitally important "chat with stranger on street" instead of doing what I told you to do? Come on...

@xochiquetzl_xkvn It's almost as if the game designers underestimated just how important great AI is. I would love actions automatically queued to be context-appropriate and also tied to personality. But that would first mean a personality overhaul...
  • @Anonymous I don't think it's a bug but i also hate this feature. I don't want them to stop i want them to do the action NEXT.

It would be nice if you could pin/confirm actions on those rare occasions they do something you actually want them to, but I’d hate if they didn’t cancel by default because I have enough trouble with not being able to cancel things that should have been canceled, like putting babies on the floor when they’re trying to sleep, strolling to the other side of the map and back when their energy is already low, going to get a drink of water when their bladder is already in the red, etc.

If they are actually doing something you want autonomously, you just have to wait until they finish before queuing your own follow up actions.  Or if they haven’t started yet, just choose it yourself - like in your example of they’ve queued use toilet and you want to add shower. If they’re still on their way, just tell them to use the toilet then the shower and they’ll barely pause as they switch from autonomy to player directed on the same action.
