@hotdeer Oh okay. So you are asking for the ability to control sims directly. Now I understand. I think that would be great also. I just don't know how realistic this request is.
I'm not a game developer but I can see how this might be really difficult for a simulation game like The Sims. Perhaps someone on the Sims team could address this directly. I checked out some reviews and saw just how buggy the Direct Controls mod can be and I can see why you chose to not use it.
For games in which players have direct control, there are set story lines and set world items. Even in open worlds, the characters are still limited by these things. However, in The Sims, we have some control over how the story develops and we can modify lots in various ways which means the sims' routing must change to accommodate where objects are placed.
Interactions with NPCs also presents a challenge since they are not tied to a specific story. Nancy Landgraab might just jog on by my played sim but if they're a celebrity, she might want to stop and ogle them. There are so many different potential outcomes so having direct control over sims could interrupt the process and thereby cause unintended effects on the overall storytelling. This storytelling, and the way NPCs react, is intrinsic to The Sims gameplay.
Having direct control over my sims would be really cool but I don't think I would want to sacrifice any of the random gameplay elements to have that control.
