Can't load any legacy family households in any neighborhood
I've been having this problem since April and I'm really getting fed up with it. I'm playing on an old Windows Yoga laptop through Steam and with Windows 10. I use this laptop exclusively for Sims now, so I've uninstalled and deleted basically anything unrelated. She's old, but she's a trooper. My game is also completely up-to-date.
I've done everything I know to do, so I'm going to try to do this as an outline:
- Gameplay totally normal. I do play with a ton of mods and CC, but it worked fine one day and, with no updates or new CC added, stopped working the next day. I have at least two backup saves just in case any CC bugs my game, but these are all behaving the same. The house I'm trying to load into has given me problems before, jumping me back to the map instead of loading, but when that's happened in the past I can just move to another household and eventually this household randomly starts working again.
- The problem: Nothing loads. Whether I use resume or the load menu, the family I was last on will not load and the game jumps me back to the map in Henford-on-Bagley. In the past, I've been able to try loading again from the map and it's fine, but not anymore. I then tried loading other households from this family across at least three other neighborhoods and none of them load. In these save files, townie houses also do not load. I literally cannot get into any household on live mode BUT I did get into the buggy house in build mode. Since there's no way to switch to live mode from the build entry, this ended up being unhelpful, but I guess at least proves it's not the lot.
- Repaired and updated Steam and EA, checked the files on Steam, no issues, no improvements.
- Took out all mods and CC. Still won't load. Also checked for any updates for the mods but, again, this literally happened overnight so I don't think it's an issue with broken CC anyways.
- Initially, if I loaded a super old save it would load, but I'm pretty sure that stopped loading for a minute as well. Frankly, I can't remember anymore and I'm getting tired of loading and crashing my game a million times.
- I also tried loading with only one save in the folder and with only the most recent versions of said save. Did not work.
- Deleted all of the cache files and whatever that local thumb file is.
- Removing my entire Sims 4 folder and starting fresh "fixed" the problem, except not really because the problem is that I can't get into the family I actually play on. My sister's game is fine and her family is like 10 generations more than mine, which is still only three or four generations in, so it's also not an issue with the size.
- I have expansion packs but I don't have For Rent, which is where I'm seeing a similar problem most in the threads, and this issue started right around the For Rent update. Packs I have: Eco Living, Snowy Escape, Island Living, Realm of Magic, Cottage Living, Parenthood, Perfect Patio, Spa Day, Strangerville, Vintage Glamour, Romantic Garden, My First Pet, Discover University, Get Together, Vampires, C&D, City Living, Get to Work, the Holiday Celebration Pack, and then Seasons.
I've since made a new save and have been able to play on it fine, but it's just not the save I want to play. I'm assuming the save I want is corrupted, but I don't fully understand how three different iterations of the save all got corrupted when I'm not actively playing on all three of them. I could live with having to rewind a bit, but even my oldest backup doesn't work.
I've never shared game files before so hopefully this works this way? I'm linking a Drive folder with the main save file and its versions. I'll try to keep an eye on this in case I need to repost/adjust access, but hopefully someone can get into this and see if my file is just super messed up and beyond repair! This family is basically my only motivation for playing so...can't say I'm especially pleased.
Let me know if it's helpful to have the backup saves for this family as well (I just need to figure out which slots they are...)
