Cottage Living Picnic Baskets

So, maybe I'm just dense and couldn't figure this out- I had my sims go to a picnic table off my lot in the new Cottage Living expansion world with a full basket. The basket says that in order to make a picnic, you need a table. Okay, fine- went to a table. Picnic basket then says it must be ON a table to make a picnic. Could not get the basket onto the table. Sim would only take it out of his inventory and put it on the ground. I couldn't pick it up with my cursor and move it onto the table. They still could take the food out of the basket and eat it, of course, but...what is the point of the picnic basket, in that case? The sims can have food in their inventory and eat it wherever, anyway. The only way I could see to make the basket work was to be on my lot, with a picnic table, and then use build mode to put the basket on the table. So, again, what's the point of it, if I can only use it on my own lot? That is, unless I'm missing something, here. If anyone knows how to make a picnic off-lot, let me know.

  • With the picnic basket in your inventory, click on the picnic table and have your sims "set up picnic" they'll place the basket and the food all on the table. This works on any lot as far as I know. Although, the picnic basket is still pretty redundant and it seems more like "packed lunches" that came with Outdoor Retreat.

    Hope that helps 🙂

    ...and you can only add 4 objects. What a waste...

  • There was some failure of planning, coordination, or something, because so many public picnic tables have decorative lamps on them... but you cannot place the picnic basket on a table with a lamp, meaning that all those picnic spots are in fact not usable with the picnic basket.  That's a pretty big oversight.

    As a work-around, apparently one can now actually put a picnic table one owns in one's inventory, and bring that with the picnic basket to whatever site one chooses. I have yet to actually test the functionality in-game to determine how fussy it is to set up a table myself.  Really, they ought to have left the table lamps off in the first place.

    @Sindocat

    Back in the earlier TS4 days we were able to destroy objects by shift clicking on an unwanted object, like unreachable food that was laying underneath picnic tables, but since they took that away from us, you could grab TwistedMexi's cheat mod "Destroy Objects" who thankfully brought it back for us. Not sure if it will be permanent though since I haven't tried it on the lamps yet. It's worth a try though.

    If you’re not a mod user you could still try and then delete the cheat file.

    ETA:

    I Just tried it and sadly on game reload the lamps are back. I guess it only works for your own objects now. But I know that it also worked for world objects before years back.

    But there are a lot of picnic tables without any lamps in the middle. You may just use those for now. I will talk to TwistedMexi about the distroy object functionality for world objects. I assume that MCCC can do it, but I'm not a MCCC user.
