discover university - no roommates + unoccupied dorms

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.59.73.1220
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? City Living, Discover University
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? The bug appeared as soon as I downloaded Discover University.
What happens when the bug occurs? I don't have the option to ask sims to be roommates and dorms are not occupied
What do you expect to see? Roommates and an occupied dorm
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Downloaded Discover University

I purchased Discover University the other day and enrolled my sim into Foxbury Institute. I moved her into Tidal Tower and found the dorm completely unoccupied. Sims visit, but essentially treat it as a community lot and not a as a residential lot or dormitory. Aside from that, the option to ask other sims to be her roommate never shows up, no matter how high their friendship is. I tried placing an ad for roommates but no potential roommates showed up.

I removed all my mods to see if that would fix the issue, but nothing changed. I tried repairing my game several times. Still nothing.

Also, ever since downloading DU, I've repeatedly gotten a certain error and it recommends me to relaunch. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it usually happens after I edit a sim or lot.

    HI @Msquared001

Try resetting your user files as described in the factory reset described in this post: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-4/FAQ-Troubleshooting-Steps-amp-Known-Issues/m-p/3621199

You won't loose anything. Just make sure to not delete any files  and make a backup.

After renaming, repair your game by right clicking on the game in Origin.

Try on a new game with nothing added back first (start new game). If it works, put back your save game and try again. If it still works, you can start putting stuff back.

    • Options.ini (or just re-set all your settings manually)
    • Tray Folder
    • Screenshots/Videos/Custom music
    • Rest of the save games (leave out slot_00000001.save which is the autosave and no longer needed - if you still have it)
    • Custom content like clothing, hair, skins, make up ....
    • Mods (one by one, making sure they all still work)

The rest does not need putting back, cause they are mostly cache files that recreate or log files that are not needed for the game.

If this doesn't help, please upload your save to google drive or one drive and PM me the link.

  • @Msquared001 What's the error you're getting ?

Did you set any requirements for the dorm ?

Is the missing option for normal housing or dorms (don't think you can ask for room mates in dorms)
  • @crinrict I get error code 102:95f402af:3584ba1f.

No, I didn't change anything about the dorm. As soon as I downloaded and started playing, I ran into the issue.

The missing option is for dorms. I haven't tried for normal housing. Hmm..didn't know you couldn't ask for roommates in dorms. That solves one problem. Still doesn't explain why the entire dorm is unoccupied though + my sim has no roommate

  • @crinrict I'm facing the exact same problem, but I'm not sure I completed the reset correctly. Is there a simplified way?

@Stasspac It's basically rename the folder, start the game, see if it works, if it does, put your stuff back one by one until it doesn't.

As this is solved, it's best if you made your own thread though, stating what you already tried and describing the issue you're facing in as much detail as possible.

    Maybe yours is different.
  • I have this issue but on the Xbox one. Will I follow the same steps or is there a different solution?
