EA is extremely nasty & shameful for this

EA recently, once again, CHANGED their policy: which now prohibits mods/custom content creators from charging any amount of money or donations for their creations. These people literally were the life support of your game for years.

You all keep changing your minds & policies on whether or not mod/custom content creators deserve any type of compensation- for the HUNDREDS OF HOURS they spend: greatly improving your game & picking up all of your slack. I am sure players will be extremely happy that mods/custom content now has to be free, and I do not blame them: but EA is attacking the livelihoods of people who do FAR better work than your team ever could. I dont blame regular simmers who dont have tons of money- but I absolutely blame EA for being money hungry.

Disclaimer: I am not a custom content/mod creator- but I did put a lot of money toward some peoples patreons for stuff i wanted. On the surface this may feel like a good thing to prevent charging people, but its really not.

Start compensating creators from your multi billion dollar company, or start hiring better coders & designers on your team. There is no excuse for this. Remember when yall threatened us that there wouldnt be a sims 5 if we didnt buy sims 4?? LOL

Hwy @BenleyApex it has always been the case that any custom content must be made free as outlined in the response above.

I'm going to lock this thread as the tone is quite agresssive and unnecessarily so. If you have feedback we are happy to pass it on but ask that it be polite and constructive.

  • @BenleyApexHello!  EA did recently update their policy but this was intended to reinforce the long-standing policy that mods must be made available free of charge, not sold or rented.  Please see the below excerpt from the policy https://help.ea.com/en/help/the-sims/the-sims-4/mods-and-the-sims-4-game-updates/

"Note, The Sims recognizes that creating Mods takes time and resources. To recoup these development costs, Mod developers may:

    • Offer an early access incentive for a reasonable amount of time. After a reasonable early access period, all users must be able to access the Mods in full for free regardless of whether they donate.
    • Run passive advertisements and requests for donations so long as they are limited to the Mod website or distribution site, and do not appear within the Mod itself."

There is nothing in the policy that prevents mod creators from soliciting donations to support their work.  I hope this helps! Happy simming :-)

So- they can have crumbs? If you wait long enough it becomes free? If only EA did that with any of their game expansions 🙂 to be clear: thats not good enough.
