[Feedback] Household Inventory Objects

There is one thing I would really like to see implemented in the base game. When a family is split up, e.g., when the YA children go to live on their own, I would like it if the items that are stored in the household inventory obtained by the children (from Father Winter, or from jobs) could be transferred to the new house, instead of being stuck in the parents' house.

What do you think?

  • OMG YES.

I used the Scumbumbo Packing Crate mod for this (and was unreasonably angry when it wasn't working recently) because my YA kids often take a while to move out, especially if the family is poorer, and I'm always sad to leave their career rewards behind. The right to buy them again isn't the same!

It's also a thing if you have YA roommates and one moves out to get married. ☹️ Okay, do I move out the musician and leave the astronaut with an inspiring piano she can't play, or do I move out the astronaut and leave the musician with an expensive rocket, or... ☹️

    In short?  What @GiardiniDiMarzo said!

  • I agree.  Any of the career rewards, drama club award, Accolades awards or other things could end up in a sims inventory rather than going to the household inventory.  A good number of objects have been changed to do that like easels that were originally things that couldn't go into a sim inventory.  But along the way, they were changed to do that.  If those things could be changed, why not the rest that are more or less personal to a specific sim?

  • Definitely a yes from me. The way I play the game is that I typically start with a created character, then I play them for a while and after accomplishing various things I like to have them start a family. Something that has become sort of a tradition for me is that I like to play as the first born for every family, which typically means that I move them out usually after becoming a young adult. Most of the time I would like to take things with me, but of course as it is the only way that happens without mods is if it fits in their personal inventory or if I simply give them the money to buy any objects I want them to have once they're in their new place.

I don't know if it has been updated recently or not, because unfortunately the mod creator died a few years ago (RIP Scumbumbo), but there is also a mod called Packing Crates. I remember using it on PC, and it allows you to take objects that normally go into the family inventory and place them in a container that goes into the personal inventory. The way it works is that you get the crate in build mode, and then in live mode you simply enable the packing option on the crate then objects should have a "pack in crate" option when you click on them. Once you have everything you want you disable packing mode, put the crate in your sim's inventory, then you can unpack everything on the new lot.

If nothing else EA should at least implement a feature similar to that mod. I doubt EA knows or cares who Scumbumbo was, but it would be really cool to see a packing object (possibly other objects as well) in the game that references them in some way especially since they really seemed to have a lot of passion for Sims 4 and modding it.

So, my friend is still using Scumbumbo’s packing crates but they’re totally scuffed for me, so I’ve been doing this painful thing:

    1. Put everything I want in the new household in household inventory and remove everything I don’t want in the new household from household inventory.
    2.  Move entire household to empty lot. Sell all belongings.
    3.  Split household and move everyone I want to live in the old house back home, rebuying all belongings.
    4.  Put things back in household inventory, if needed, in the old household.
    5.  Repeat if moving out two of four roommates, which I was.
    6.  Move your Sims from the empty lot to where you want them to go.

This hurts. It causes physical pain, but it works,   and at least the Hero of Strangerville gets to keep her medals and mother plant tendril.

    Packing crates, Sims team, please?

[edit] Deleting my localthumbnail cache made the Packing Crates mod work again, if anyone else is handing the “you can pack and unpack the crates but not put them in your inventory” issue.
